Independent hotels in Northern, West Virginia

"We were traveling through the area and picked this hotel using Google maps and Hotels.com. We stayed in the carriage house, Lake room with a king bed. It was comfortable. We had dinner in the cafe. Very good food. Quiet, comfortable, interesting area. The 2 women running it were very helpful. Since it's a small staff, don't arrive before 4pm or you might have to wait. We would stay here again"

"The owner met us and explained all we'd need to know about our stay. The room was small, but more than adequate, very clean. Wi-Fi worked well. It is an older remodeled home, so outlets for chargers were at a minimum, but plenty for 2 people for a night. Continental breakfast was good, lots of choices. Definitely would stay there again."

"The only two downsides were a lack of WiFi and cell service (only available in the main house) and no GPS. They do send you very detailed directions, but if you are wholly unfamiliar with the area, it can be a little unsettling to be on winding roads outside of civilization with no cell service. I admittedly panicked (we drove for 12 straight hours overnight), and our friend was on the verge of declaring us missing because he couldn't get in touch with us. Obviously, we were totally fine and laughed about it later. The resort itself was beautiful, quiet, and the staff were very friendly. The cabins were cozy and warm, as we were there in February/March when it was cold, and the exterior bath house was also very warm. It was clean and there was plenty of hot water. I highly recommend if you're looking to escape into nature."
