Go for a swim in the surprisingly warm water or enjoy the views across Buzzard Bay at Falmouth’s family-favourite beach.
Nestled in Falmouth’s Wild Harbor, Old Silver Beach is a haven for sunbathers and swimmers. This quintessential Cape Cod beach keeps things simple. It doesn’t have busy boardwalks lined with restaurants and arcades. Instead, it lets its natural beauty do the crowd pleasing. Pack your beach bag and spend the day enjoying the sun and surf.
Old Silver Beach is split into two halves. One side is for residents with beach stickers and the other is for the general public. Besides a rock jetty separating the beaches, you won’t notice a difference in quality between either side.
Its protected location in Buzzard Bay makes the water at Old Silver Beach unusually warm and calm. This is one of the reasons that the beach is such a popular family destination.
Take a relaxing dip or venture further out on a paddleboard. Watch out for strong currents at high tide, particularly near the jetty.
If you need a break from the sand, take a hike inland. The Wing Pond Reservation has trails that take you through woods and cranberry bogs, snaking along Herring Brook and around Wing Pond. There is also a nice plot of protected land just east of Old Silver Beach.
The beach provides full services during the summer. Lifeguards are on duty throughout the day to protect swimmers. Beachgoers can make use of the restroom and shower facilities. If you get hungry or thirsty, grab refreshments at the concession stand.
The parking lot at Old Silver Beach is fairly small and fills up quickly. Arrive early in the morning to ensure that you get a spot. There is a daily parking fee for the general public.
Head into Falmouth’s town center if you want to go shopping or eat something beyond the concession stand’s offerings. It is about a 15-minute drive from Old Silver Beach.
