We arrived at dusk and with the masseria lit up the first impression was stunning. The grounds and house are beautiful and the interior is full of artefacts charting the history of the masseria. Our room was charming, rustic, and incredibly comfortable. Everyone we met was incredibly friendly and helpful, there's a real family feel amongst the people running the masseria.
We elected to take the pre-dinner tour of the house and gardens which gave us an insight into the history of the masseria, the architecture, and olive oil production. The tour culminated into a visit to the natural cave which the house was built upon housing the olive presses. Dinner was a six course local and seasonal menu with accompanying wine which was incredible, our host described each course and it's historical or local significance.
A highlight of our trip I would highly recommend a visit.
A quiet peaceful comfortable retreat, with friendly helpful staff. More of a house with paying guests than an hotel. The food was very good, we even managed one of the 8 course menus, although the fixed format might seem limited if you stay for long (it was fine for our 4 day stay). Good to have some grounds to wander in, before and after dinner. The pool is small, suitable to take a cool escape from the heat, rather than for swimming.
The food served is very good. BUT! Make sure you understand that 6 course surprise tasting menu has no seafood or meat - the main is pasta only. The 4 and 8 course menus do include seafood or meat main.
Originele Masseria, terug in de tijd, straalt rust uit. Kregen de eerste avond een interessante rondleiding met aansluitend een lekker diner. Prettig verblijf!
Great Easter weekend at a grand Masseria! The staff were wonderful in making us feel welcome and well cared for at all times. We loved the tour of the property with a little insight into the 500 yr history of the property.
A very pleasant experience...beautiful old masseria with quaint features and lovely grounds. Wonderful breakfast with all freshly baked treats. Spacious room in part of the extended house.
Great fun!
I had the eight course dinner with seasonal ingredients which they made a point to make it perfect for my lactose intolerance. I love that they made such an exerted effort on my behalf. Needless to say, the food and service were awesome.
Although the hotel was a little hard to find in the dark, walking into the main courtyard was spectacular. Like going back in time and staying on a prosperous Italian estate. The limestone courtyard and building is elegant and grand, and our vaulted room was beautifully appointed with simple antique furniture. The reception rooms are huge and full of fascinating objects, tracing back the history of the farm. After a tour and short history by the owner we were served a beautiful dinner, typical regional food, by a roaring log fire (it is cold in Puglia in March). The wine was delicious. The following day we had a long walk around the estate - wondering through the parterre gardens full of oranges and lemons, divided by the original aqueducts. Walking through the 70 odd hectares of olive groves with views of the sea is truly restorative to the soul! Some of the trees are over 1000 years old. You can buy the farm products form the stores in the lower caves of the building - estate olive oils and jams. The owners could not have been nicer and we felt completely at ease to relax and enjoy their beautiful estate.
it is difficult to convey just how wonderful this place is. We arrived on a late flight pulling up at 10.30pm to find a lovely log fire burning in the grate and a fabulous spread of delicious antipasti and a gorgeous red wine. It was magical.
The place has a feel good atmosphere to make you truly relax, the food is some of the best I have tasted anywhere in the world and terrific value. There is a lovely informal feel about the place and the charming staff do everything they can to please.
The rooms are not contemporary neutrals and the bathrooms could do with an upgrade - but that is to miss the point of the place which is about traditional puglian buildings, wine and food delivered with a smile- very special.
This was the highlight of our tour of Puglia. A beautiful 'oasis of peace' with wonderful local food and absolutely delightful people. Il Frantoio is very special. Very special indeed.
