Pacific Beach Park

A crowded beach with people sunbathing and swimming.
A sunny coastal promenade with people walking and rollerblading, palm trees, and a beach in the background.
A beach with surfers and swimmers during sunset.
A pier at sunset with people sitting and standing, waves crashing below.
A sunset over the ocean with clouds reflecting the golden light.

This relaxed beach has plenty to do during the day, and its popular clubs will keep you dancing late into the night.

Known as “P.B.” to the locals, Pacific Beach is a San Diego neighbourhood with a strong identity and pride in itself. The area was used as a naval base during the Second World War, and developed as a bustling seaside community during the 1960s.Found between La Jolla Cove and Mission Beach, Pacific Beach is known for its active nightlife with plenty of pubs, clubs and restaurants to choose from. With the city centre catering to a more mature crowd, this area is most popular with fun-loving students and young professionals looking for somewhere to socialise and dance the night away. The best evening entertainment is to be found between Mission Boulevard and Ingraham Street.Pacific Beach also has a lot to offer during the daytime. Chill out with a picnic or just lay back with a book and soak up the sunbeams. Mexican stalls offer tasty food along the seafront, or you can cool down with a drink in the shade of a classy hotel or restaurant with a vantage over the shore.Tourmaline Surf Park is the designated surfing area here, and its smaller waves are perfect for beginners, while there is a safe swimming area just to the north of this with a lifeguard on duty. Other sporting options include biking or blading along the seafront, or joining a game of volleyball on the beach. More laid-back people might prefer to go fishing from Crystal Pier, while fashionistas will find plenty to amuse them on Garnet Avenue and Mission Boulevard.Campfire spots known locally as “fire rings” are plentiful along the shore – but they're also very popular, so come early during the summer if you want to get one. Other facilities available include public toilets and showers. Pacific Beach has very little parking available so public transport via the Metropolitan Transit Service (MTS) bus is the best option for getting here, and there are a number of routes to choose from throughout the city.
