"Issues we had with this "5-star" hotel: 1. The check-in process is laboriously slow; 4 people ahead of me and it took more than an hour to get through with 2 people handling checkin. Had to fill out the same personal information that was provided when I booked. Total waste of time. 2. The water in the shower did not drain - the slope was away from the drain 3. The cap around the water control for the shower was loose. 4. Water was not hot and had to call maintenance twice. 5. Coffee/tea was not stocked well and no black tea. 6. I booked an ocean front room and we were given a room overlooking the parking roof! Yes, if you step out on the balcony and look left, you can see the ocean! Total bait and switch."

"The pool area was too small, but you won't need it. The beach is absolutely amazing and right across the street. The rooftop views though are amazing. You can see all of Ipanema and Leblon beach along with Christ the Redeemer on the mountain top. "

"Excellent choice in a nice neighborhood with lots of food options. Our room was huge, nicely appointed, everything in good condition. Enormous pool, free laundry, and an amazing happy hour buffet. Best hotel of our 2 1/2 week trip to South America!"

"There was a huge coachorage in my bathroom and after I hardly killed that oneand couldn’t sleep I saw another one next day. I asked them to change my room and they said they can’t and they don’t have any room. After I insisted so hard they accepted and all of a suddeb there was another room. I know there are coachorages hidden behind bathroom doors wooden pieces, so if you get that kind of room where there is space they can hide you will most likely sleep with one and even see it and scream like I did. God they are huge!!!"

"First off, this is a favela, and it’s amazing. The views are unreal, the space is comfortable, and it’s easy to just stay here all day and not want to leave. That said, it *is* still a favela, so come prepared. If you have multiple bags, use Google Translate to arrange a motorbike or van to get up the hill. Ubers can take a while and often stop running around midnight. My stay was incredible. I didn’t realize breakfast was included every morning, and the family here is so welcoming and kind, above&beyond. On my first day they were having a barbecue and invited me to try traditional foods like maionese and churrasco. Later we went to a bloco party together and they made sure I felt safe the entire time. There are community rules, and the hosts clearly explained where to go and what areas to avoid. I genuinely felt safe and cared for. There’s a strong sense of community here. There are different room types with or without AC. I chose a non AC room. It was a little hot during the day but not unbearable. Pro tip: the rooftop is cooler and doubles as a lounging and viewing deck. I also didn’t know how to turn on the hot water at first, so ask for a quick walkthrough. If you prefer very modern, sturdy bathroom fixtures, this may not be the best fit. This is not something you can experience through a tour. To understand the warmth and daily life of a favela, you have to live in it.
