Cabin Fever was a great getaway from North County for New Years. We arrived with a heavy wet snow that turned to ice on the road; take all the precautions… AWD, 4WD, good tires, chains, etc., it’s quite an isolated area. The cabin was brilliant just as a cozy Mt cabin should be. The fireplace was the highlight (chimney might need a cleaning though, smoke coming into house w a long fire). Great seating options for fire gazing, reading, TV, etc. All the essential amenities. The beds weren’t great but sufficient. The kids loft was doable for our 7 & 11 yr old daughters, but I wouldn’t put teens up there given the low ceiling. Overall the place was clean enough for a cabin, there was some dust build up here and there (heater vent, lamps, etc.) but generally clean. A stick vac was provided for tidying up; that was convenient. The outdoor space was great; a large deck with ample seating overlooking the forest below… perfect for sledding or taking a wander. We explored a few trails in the neighborhood, nice little walks on wide trails, good for kids. The parking was a bit worrisome with the snow, ice, and mud during our visit. The parking slopes toward the cabin so there is concern about backing out. Parking parallel along the side is ideal but the ground is falling away in a fairly large area marked by cones. This doesn’t leave much room for parking with the 8” berm at the roadside, esp. if the plow comes. We put a cone at the roadside wheel of our white suv to alert the plow. We didn’t have any problems and in the dry months there would be little concern, but in a two day snow storm these things could be big concerns for someone not familiar w Mt life. Hailing from Colorado, we weren’t too stressed. I would just check the weather before booking and know what your getting into. 2 good aluminum shovels were provided which we used to shovel out the snow pile along the berm from the plow two times and the deck and stairs. The stairs can be very slippery so I’d caution that, and having some salt on hand (maybe in that brown metal box) would be smart. Overall our stay was great, and we loved the lower floor of the cabin and cozying up around the fire after winter walks in the peace and solitude that only the mountains can provide. We’ll likely be back to cabin fever for a warm up in the future!
