"Honestly, for me, Spring Lodge and Cafe looked a little iffy when we booked it. Wow, was I pleasantly surprised! The couple who owns it are so nice and delightful. The restaurant--think food truck with a fun patio--really worked. Don't get me wrong--it' not the ritz. But if you like fun quirky places, I think this is a find.
Only one thing, completely out of their control and should be fixed maybe in a month or so: the bridge to the main drag over the river in front was out of commssion, being completely rebuilt. Super inconvenient. Still, again, shouldn't be for much longer.
Bottom line, thumbs up!"
"The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean. The bed was comfy. I enjoy staying in these types of old "Route 56" accomodations. My only drawback was that although there is a window air conditioner, the window is above the headboard on the bed, so if you want it cold, you have to sleep through that. To be fair, these are old buildings and there really isn't a better place to put the AC unit."
"Everyone was friendly and helpful, but the two people working the front desk were extraordinary. I wish I remembered their names but he is from Macedonia and she is from Romania. Also, the café staff were excellent. Once again I do not remember their names, but the cashier is from the Ukraine. She was delightful."
"My wife and our grand daughter stayed 2 nights in one of the duplex cabins. This was our third time to stay at the Rock Crest. The check in lady was very nice and furnished us enough quarters for the coin laundry on premises. The room was nice and clean, the beds were comfortable. We made our own coffee and did not go to the breakfast which was offered. The family in the other duplex were very nice folks. The cabin was convenient to Custer State Park and Mount Rushmore. My grand daughter enjoyed the animals in the park, bison, prairie dogs, deer, pronghorn antelopes, wild turkeys, and most of all the begging donkeys in the park and also the deer walking around our cabin which she fed and talked to."
