Log home on Oak Creek Mountain Ranch with 360 views,
Property available only June,July and August. Four night min. stay. Our log home is 2,600 sq.ft. Situated on 35 acres approx. 8,200 ft in elevation. Surrounded by 1/2 million acres of National forest and BLM land. Views of Sangre deCristo and Collegiate mt ranges, along with the San Isabel Nationl Forest surround the home. Located 15 miles south of Canon City and 15 miles north of the 'quaint' town of Westcliffe, Colorado which is up against the Sangre de Cristo mountain range. Westcliffe is a mining/ranching town with grocery store, art galleries, bowling alley, lots of antique stores, and restaurants. Farmers market Wednesday mornings on main street. Along the front of Sangre de Cristo mts is the 100 mile rainbow trail in Westcliffe. Rafting, fishing, kayaking, zip lining, and bungee jumping thru the Royal Gorge and the word famous Arkansas river. Both Wolf Springs ranch where there is a bison herd and Mission wolf sanctuary are located about 1/2 hour drive south of Westcliffe. Canon City 15 miles north of cabin is the larger of the two immediate towns with a population of approx 30,000 and has all the amenities. Part of the beauty indeed in getting there is the drive up from Canon City on a steep, narrow hard packed Oak Creek Grade dirt road for 15 miles. Or you can take the longer less steep but also pretty route thru Westcliffe from Canon City. The cabin is in a private gated community. Enjoy hiking, biking, and fishing brown trout in Grape Creek only 3 miles down jeep trail or walk 3 miles down deer trail from front door. Visit the Royal Gorge a 50 minute drive away. Or raft the Arkansas river out of Canon City. We as homeowners want you to have the best possible experience at our rental. Please understand that you will be in the 'wild' and may have a chance to see wildlife. However, please be aware that wildlife such as cougars, bears, coyotes, need to be respected as the wild creatures they are so please do not feed them. Keep a respectful distance away from them (that is what zoom lens are for!) Cougars can be curious and we have seen them near the house in the past. So please take time to read the blue guest notebook on wild creatures upon arriving and take the proper caution. This is a remote area yet close to Westcliffe and Canon City and we hope you enjoy the many things the area has to offer! ********No ATV allowed on property as per ranch rules due to road damage. Users will be fined if this happens*********Thanks and enjoy your stay!!

We all absolutely loved this log home/cabin! It was stunning and the views were just beautiful. We loved having our coffee in the morning on the deck. We also saw the most amazing night sky. It felt like you could reach out and touch the Big Dipper and Milky Way!Mary was so kind and easy to work with, and very responsive! We would definitely stay again and highly recommend staying here!
Beautiful place with everything you might need including outstanding views. Kitchen had everything you need making cooking really easy and the kids love the game.
The cabin was absolutely gorgeous with amazing and beautiful views! Everything you need is in the cabin, attractions are about an hour or more away, but if your looking for peace and serenity this home is perfect!
Mary’s house was perfect for our family! It’s beautiful and extremely clean and well kept The kids loved exploring and sleeping in the loft, waking up to the views of the mountains. We loved hanging out on the deck and watching the sunset. We had a great time and would definitely stay there again.
We had a great time! The house and property absolutely beautiful! We could not have asked for a better experience! The host was very responsive to any questions and the communication was great!
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had wildlife come up to our cabin. It was stocked and ready to go! Mary was awesome to communicate with. The scenery is breathtaking. We will be back!

Wonderful!
We had a great vacation! The house was exactly as described. The drive from Canon City was a little over 30 minutes and had breathtaking views. There wasn't cell reception, which was exactly what our family needed. Thank you for opening your home to us!
Its perfect. The land is so quite, beautiful to look at in every direction and at every time of day. The mountain road to get there is an adventurous part of the stay. I can't come up with one single complaint to file or improvement to suggest.

Great Views - Space for the Whole Family
Great time visiting the cabin. Awesome views. Enough space for the whole family with 3 full bathrooms to get us out in time for the days actiity. The drive to the cabin is about 30 minutes outside of downtown Canon City. Might seem far on the first drive, but gets quicker as you get familiar with the drive. However its not a drive for everyone, particularly drivers who aren’t comfortable on escalating dirt roads through the mountains. Lots of hiking close to the cabin. Short drive to Westcliffe and the very scenic San Luis Valley. Great grill and kitchen to prepare meals for a hungry family after a full days worth of activities. And finally lots of fun games for the kids and family to occupy those evening or rainy days. Highly recommend.
We really enjoyed our stay. The property was off the beaten path - no cell service, fairly slow satellite internet WiFi - it was a nice change of pace. Plan to largely disconnect from the rest of the world and just enjoy the mountains.
The cabin was clean and spacious. Lots of kitchen essentials available. We picked up a couple bags of ice on our way in as the ice maker was not usable.
We did not see wildlife from the cabin, although we had very regular visits from hummingbirds. We also got up in the middle of the night a couple times and the stars were visible unlike anything we've ever seen before. There are a few roads near the property that take you on some scenic drives.
If you've not driven in the mountains before, the route from Canon City to the property may seem a bit rugged and steep at points, but it honestly wasn't nearly as bad as some of the other reviews made it out to be. Some steep grades and lots of curves but otherwise just a lengthy but scenic drive. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the property from Canon City, so I'd recommend bringing in essentials you need like groceries and ice as it won't be a quick trip to get anywhere with services or amenities.
Overall, our stay was outstanding! I wouldn't hesitate to book this cabin again!
The cabin was just as pictured! The views from the huge windows were beautiful, with amazing sunsets over the mountains!
A deer visited us two evenings in a row, watching us through the windows. We also had hummingbirds visit us while relaxing on the deck. It was so quiet and peaceful!
The owner thought of everything to make our stay comfortable! We had a great time and made wonderful memories!
Absolutely Beautiful Home with Amazing Views. Great Privacy
This house was clean, and beautiful. Well furnished and has absolutely amazing views of the mountains, wildlife and lots of peace and quiet. Highly recommend this as your next VRBO
House and Location was perfect for us. We wanted to be at one with nature, as we have 2 cancer patients amongst us that surely needed it. And got it, we ALL did!! The radio around deck with the mountain view was a huge hit!! My hubby, one if the C patients, slept by the wall of glass doors and windows and was in awe of seeing the sunrise/ sunset every day over the mountains.
Having fans provided, was perfect for the cpl warmer days. Nights were in upper 50's and we slept with windows open. Perfect!!
We toured all thru the several different Mtns, and met a couple older gents doing a night time owl study up on one mtn, that were delightful to talk with.
We had fun at the whole Gorge area.
Didn't get to do the train ride since didn't book it weeks in advance.
There was one huge storm that hit @ the house and washed out the roads, so we had to wait till the next mid-day b4 they were fixed. The road crew was phenomenal!!
Overall, we highly recommend Mary's house for location and family get togethers!!
The views from the cabin are amazing. The cabin itself is amazing. However, I wish I’d known just how remote and difficult it was to get to the cabin. Technically the cabin is only 12 miles from town. However, due to the road conditions (both the “short” way and the long way) it took about 45 minutes to get to a small town and much longer to get to fun activities like rafting and Colorado Springs etc. Had we known this, we would have opted for something actually closer to town. In addition, some reviews mention that the “short” way to canon city can be scary. I don’t think that accurately depicts how terrifying that “shorter” road is. It is literally on the side of a mountain with no trees or anything between you and 1,000 feet to your death. The 15 minutes saved by going this shorter way is not worth the agony of taking the road. My family and I were literally terrified and the journey on that road seemed to last hours. This may not bother some. But for anyone even a little concerned about a narrow dirt road that winds around a mountain with no guard rail, shoulder or trees, you don’t want to take this road. You also need to know that this cabin is literally in the middle of nowhere.
As far as the cabin itself, again it is beautiful. But this particularl rental has more “rules” than any other we’ve ever experienced. There were notes all over the place about what we weren’t allowed to do. For example, even though there is a fireplace inside and a fire pit outside, both stocked with wood, we weren’t allowed to have a fire (there was not a drought) it rained every day. Also, there were no hand towels in the bathrooms so we had to use wash rags.
Another big problem was the air conditioner. It didn’t seem to cool the house at all. We all struggled to sleep because we were so hot at night. This was true regardless of us turning the AC down. All these things together caused a lot of frustration. If we had known all these things we would have chosen another place.
The cabin layout was perfect for our trip. I traveled with two girlfriends and our kids, 7 of us in total. The first trip up the mountain was a little frightening, but unbelievably gorgeous at the same time. The cabin itself was beautifully made and just what we expected based on the listing. What we didn't expect was the number of animal bones found right around the property! Upon reading the bluebook, we had mixed emotions about the possibility of seeing wildlife such as mountain lions up close and personal! In the end, we only saw deer, and we were somewhat disappointed after the evidence around the cabin suggested otherwise. I would be curious to know how often they see mountain lions and bears around the property. We ended up taking the steep path to and from the cabin every day and became more accustomed to it. I think it would be helpful to have more clear directions for the other paths, as we found them to be pretty vague, and not worth an attempt in another direction. The dishwasher didn't appear to get dishes completely clean so we did a lot of handwashing, but it wasn't a big deal. It would also be helpful to have more cleaning supplies around the cabin. We had a difficult time finding the right type of trash bag for the kitchen trash can and ran out of kleenex. Overall, we really loved our stay and would highly recommend it for others looking to get away to the middle of the mountains!
This house and property were beautiful and just what our family was looking for. Loved the remote location and the sunsets and starry nights were truly breathtaking!
This is a great escape and awesome and comfortable home that is relaxing and well equipped.
Overall impression is WOW! Very well equipped, comfortable and way out there. The scenery is unbelievable, the stars are amazing, hiking is incredible and tee time at 9am (your choice) for forest disc golf is just perfect. We took the 3.4 mile jeep trail to grape creek daily to fish and never saw a sole, peaceful. You do need a four wheel drive high clearance truck, jeep to get down there. Also, the road to Canon is pretty unnerving for some (me) but doable. My family and friends absolutely enjoyed ourselves and had a relaxing vacation as it should be.
Thank you for such a beautiful property and hence great vacation. This home will accommodate the adventurer. The road to the property from Canon City may be difficult for those with a fear of heights; a steep edge borders the road. It’s gorgeous though!
The home was outfitted with great outdoor furniture, a propane grill, great mountain views, WiFi, a well-stocked kitchen with items you’ll need. Bring toiletries, but I feel that’s common for VRBO. Thank you all so much!!
Wow. If you want to feel like you are alone in the world (yet not far from great things to do and places to eat) this is a WONDERFUL option! The cabin (I'd call it a chalet) was beautiful. It was very tastefully decorated, very "Colorado" yet not too much. It had everything from electric griddles to popcorn poppers, pizza trays and wonderful cookware. The most important thing to us was the gorgeous view you saw from absolutely every angle of the immense wraparound porch. We hiked the area each day. We cooked all meals there, however, went into town a few times (15 miles but about 45-minute drive). The Royal Gorge is close by. We felt totally secluded. Breathtaking. There were games and cards and a gas grill. Mary, the owner, answered every question before we went. We wanted a safe, fairly remote place because of Covid. We found it. Meticulously clean. We highly recommend this!!
We loved the house. It is a true log cabin in the middle of nowhere. The views are incredible. Great for a friends or family get away. I hope to stay again next year.
