The locality of Rapallo, an appreciated tourist and seaside centre in the metropolitan area of Genoa, is located in the western part of the Gulf of Tigullio.
Here you will find everything you may need for a lovely holiday on the Riviera: the historic centre is crossed by the caruggio (Via Mazzini), parallel to the seafront, with numerous shops. The Vittorio Veneto seafront is an elegant promenade in the shade of palm trees; here ferries dock with which you can reach other locations in the Gulf. It is a succession of outdoor seating areas with bars, ice cream parlours, hotels and restaurants. Worth visiting is the Sanctuary of Montallegro, reachable by cable car, which offers visitors a splendid view of the Tigullio, as well as San Michele di Pagana, a hamlet of Rapallo, a splendid natural inlet towards Santa Margherita.
Near the Rapallo motorway exit, and consequently also very close to the villa, is the Rapallo Golf and Tennis Club, an 18-hole course among the most highly rated in Italy, which stands next to the ruins of Valle Christi, an ancient Cistercian monastery.
Just over 30 km away you will find Genoa, a port city and capital of Liguria, historically renowned for its important role in maritime trade over many centuries.
Known as one of the most extensive medieval historic centres in Europe, Genoa's historic centre is a maze of alleyways (caruggi) that open unexpectedly onto small squares, often linked, like the churches that overlook them, to important noble families.
The spirit of Genoa lies precisely in the alleyways, where smells, flavours, languages and diverse cultures mix together.
In the historic centre stands the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, in Romanesque style with a façade of white and black stripes and frescoed interiors. Narrow streets lead to monumental squares such as Piazza de Ferrari, with its characteristic bronze fountain, and the Carlo Felice opera house.
Not to be missed and iconic is the Aquarium of Genoa, the largest in Europe. The exhibition route features over 70 environments and approximately 12,000 specimens from 600 species, from all the seas of the world. An unforgettable experience for young and old alike, which will fill your heart with emotions and a deep respect for the sea and its extraordinary inhabitants.
It is also impossible to overlook Genoese culinary tradition, with the legendary basil pesto, famous throughout the world, and focaccia, which can be savoury like focaccia with olives, onion and tomato, or also sweet and filled.
