Watch rapidly cascading water as you follow a winding creek down a gorge through the forest of this scenic terrain.

Robert H. Treman State Park is a forested land in the Finger Lakes region, known for its waterfalls and rapids. Walking paths parallel the multi-tiered cascades of the creek as it bends through a deep gorge. Swim in a natural pool in the middle of nature, surrounded only by trees and the sound of birdcalls.

Embark upon the 4.5-mile (7.2-kilometer) hike of the park’s circumference to discover its 12 waterfalls. Follow the trickling water of Enfield Creek as it meanders through the forest over endless layers of gray shale. Admire the picturesque rock formations rising from the water in the deep gorge of Enfield Glen.

Stand in the light spray of Lower Falls as it drops into the stream-fed pool at its base. Jump from the dive platform into the chilly water for a refreshing thrill on a hot day. Follow the hiking trail to the 115-foot (35-meter) Lucifer Falls in the western section of the park.

Enjoy a picnic at one of the tables and shelters around the park. Eat with your family next to the gurgling cascades. Stay a few nights in a cabin or tent in one of the campsites. Visit the Enfield Falls Mill and Miller’s House, which is a historic flourmill within the park grounds. The mill, which was built in 1839, used a water turbine for power.

The grounds are named after a wealthy local resident who founded several parks in the early 20th century, including the nearby Buttermilk Falls State Park.

The park opens to visitors year-round and charges a vehicle fee in summer. Swimming and camping sites are closed in winter. Check the official website for seasonal access information for the pavilion, certain trails and bow hunting for deer.

Robert H. Treman State Park is a 5-mile (8-kilometer) drive southwest from the town of Ithaca in New York State. Other scenic area parks include Buttermilk Falls State Park and Ithaca College Natural Lands. Take a direct flight to Ithaca from New York City, which is about 230 miles (370 kilometers) southeast.
