Our family of eight (five adults and three children) stayed at Casa della Marchesa from July 7th through the 14th and it exceeded all of our expectations.
The home itself is beautiful, well appointed and was clearly renovated recently (in the last few years). Frankly, the home is as nice as the pictures indicate. The property itself is quiet, and is located on the side of a hill with spectacular views toward the east. It is only a few kilometers away from the main town of Sarteano... easy for quick trips to the grocery store or for lunch, dinner or gelato.
There was plenty of space for everyone in the house. The three children slept in single beds on the lower level and shared a bathroom, and the remaining five adults occupied the other three bedrooms. The common rooms (kitchen, living room) were very spacious and we ate together either at the main dining table in the kitchen or the table on the deck outside between the pool and the house every single day. For families who like to cook some of their own meals, the kitchen is fantastic - it has everything you need.
We all loved the pool - which is salt water based, not chlorine - but our kids liked it the most and played in the pool for hours each day.
Jens, the owner, and Lucia, the property manager, were both fantastic - very kind, great communicators, and easy-going. We felt like well-served guests at a fine hotel the entire time, both leading up to our visit, and at its conclusion.
Sarteano is a small, lovely town. We had several meals there - the best one was at Chiostro Cennini. We also watched a few of the World Cup games at Zanzibar’s Pub... it was like the local version of Cheers (for American readers).
Sarteano is also located in a great spot for sightseeing in Tuscany. It’s right off of the A1, a major Italian highway, and we took several easy day-trips to Montepulciano, Pienza, Montalcino, and Siena. Another activity we enjoy is hiking... and we did three very nice hikes during our stay. One was suggested by Jens in his welcome guide to the home - this was a very nice hike - and we hiked two other times on the Via Francigena (the medieval pilgrim trail from France to Rome) which runs through Tuscany and is only about a 30 minute drive from the house.
Overall, we could not be more pleased about our stay in Casa della Marchesa. Thank you, Jens, for allowing us the opportunity to stay in your home. We will certainly be back at some point in the future!!!
