"The room we had was of generous proportions and we were on 8th floor with a view out to the harbour. If could fault it was because the bathroom didn't have any hooks to hang things on and it didn't seem to have an exhaust system for when the shower was running. "

This is the interior of one of the finest timber churches in New Zealand, and is a testament to various people who helped save it.

St Paul's Church (as it was called) was finished and consecrated in 1866, built to a design by Rev Frederick Thatcher. It served as the parish church for the suburb of Thorndon and as the Wellington Cathedral until the 1960's when a new modern cathedral was built. Once the new cathedral was finished it was proposed to demolish this church, but growing public protest led to the NZ Government purchasing the property and placing it under the umbrella of the NZ Historic Places Trust. It was restored and reopened to the public in 1970
