Just WOW!
Others have said it, I’ll reiterate it: the pictures do not do the property justice! Not only is the property gorgeous and well-stocked, but it is extremely spacious! The views were second to none and access to the café at the foot of the garden, as well as the unspoiled views across Loch Katrine make this a bucket list type property. The owners were incredible from beginning to end and always on hand for whatever we needed. we would love to visit here again and stay, as so many wonderful memories were made as we celebrated Hogmanay with our friends. While Stronachlachar feels remote, it’s just far enough away that you can find yourself again, whilst being close enough to access, whatever you need. It even snowed for us on our trip! Thank you Graham and Cath for a wonderful and memorable experience!

Well, the photos did not do the property or views justice. Staggeringly good. The house was beautifully equipped, spacious rooms for all, top notch bathrooms, and roaring fires. Couldnt have asked for better, everything we needed and stuff we didnt know we needed too!! Thanks so much, worth every penny!

Wonderful week’s stay
We are 3 generations of family, ages 6-81. We had a wonderful stay. Enough room for everyone in and out of the Lodge. The Pier Cafe is a great addition as there really isn’t anything else close. Inversnaid is lovely for different scenery and the Bunk House had the best food we had in Scotland. Truly amazing dinner and staff. It is a remote area with lots of trekkers/backpackers. If you love the outdoors, and amazing scenery, it’s paradise. If you want to do a lot of touring, you will have to brave the 1 lane road every time, in and out. It is not for the faint of heart. The key to those roads, if you aren’t familiar, is to take your time and stay towards the center. Too far to the outside, you will pop a tire (as we did day 1). Too fast and you can’t adjust without blowing a sidewall. Go slowly around blind turns and switchbacks and seriously, take your time. After the first run of the road, you will feel better on the drive. Take time not enjoy the view, the walks, the natural falls. The boat from Inversnaid to Tarbet and beyond is very nice and a little easier than Stronachlachar since that has only 2 stops at the pier. Loch Lomond has multiple boats and stops to goose from. All in all, my 12 & 14 year olds said it was the best vacation we’ve had. Everyone loved the laid back pace and beautiful views, and the girls even swam almost daily. But yeah- it’s COLD! :)

Incredible House, extraordinary view, rent this place!
Stronachlachar Lodge 1 is a Fabulous property, very well-equipped kitchen, great Wi-Fi & selection on tv, super common-areas, pool table and outside spaces. Think refurbished 2022 under new owners. Beds very comfortable, bed linens high quality. So worth the rental. Highly recommend. The reviews just don’t do this property justice, it was magical. Will rent again. Here’s “area info” advice we learned & want to share: take your own bikes & kayak/canoe! Strony Lodge is Not on Trossachs Pier, it’s on Stronachlachar Pier, a £20 boat ride each way between the piers, and Trossachs Pier has the bike rentals so it’s not something you do daily. No kayak or canoe rentals allowed on Loch Katrine. If you don’t have your own kayak, we recommend you Go to charming Luss Village on West side of Loch Lomond and rent water equipment, great time—it’s one hour car drive from house but worth the trip—Good Cullen skink at Oak Tree Inn in Balmaha on the way back. (We were told Inversnaid near Stronachlachar had kayak/canoe rentals for east Loch Lomond but when we got there, no rental place & hotel had no info either. Research that ahead of time.)

Absolutely Fabulous!
We were a group of family and friends from Scotland and England and I can't recommend the lodge enough. If I could give it 10 stars I would. The lodge was immaculate and very well equipped. We've booked a few large houses over the years and this was by far the most comfortable and well equipped. The bedrooms were spacious, stylish and extremely comfortable. The kitchen/dining room was perfect, everything we could possibly need for a large party. Graham our host was so friendly and helpful prior/during and after our visit. The view from the house is spectacular. We were all in agreement, we will definitely be back.

50th birthday celebrations
This is our second time staying for a special birthday party. We had a group of 12 family members ranging from a baby to a 72 year old. It's a fantastic size of a house for everyone to be involved or to go rest, get a bit quiet etc. The house is beautifully presented. And we loved that the Christmas decorations were out! It's also very well equipped, cot and high chair is a great touch too. Very handy for our 10 month old nephew. The surroundings are beautiful, a great big garden for any doggy guests with a fence all the way around. Great walks in the area for keen walkers aswell and if you don't fancy much cooking, The Pier Cafe at the bottom of the garden is open from breakfast till teatime and offers lovely food with a fantastic service. We loved ur stay again and will most likely revisit. Thank you!

Wonderful retreat in the Scottish Highlands
Stronachlachar is a magical place. After an initial hiccup checking in (an email went astray), Graham moved heaven and earth to get us in, and to make sure everything was great for our large party. The road in from Aberfoyle is .... interesting, and I do wish it were legal to fish in Loch Katrine, but those have nothing to do with the place per se. Definitely wonderful for a family get-together. Our six-year-old did not want to leave!

Family celebration
The property could have been cleaner, the toilet seat was broken ,the cover on one bed was full of dog hairs, some of the dishes were chipped, one of the micro waves was not working, the ice maker in the fridge was broken and clogged with ice. the sofa's were low and uncomfortable. The location was great.

Louisa, Many thanks for your review, which certainly appears out of character. However be rest assured each of the items noted will be reviewed and actioned if required. Yes the toilet seat was broken downstairs and due to a delay in obtaining a replacement could only be fixed on the Monday you left. However, there are 4 other toilets in the lodge. (2) While we don't allow dogs upstairs, not everyone follows the instructions. I will have my Housekeeper keep an eye out for this in the future. (3) All dishes are checked and replaced on a regular basis - we carry a lot of stock for this very reason. (4) One of the microwaves has been fixed twice, but is obviously now needing replaced. Two new microwaves have been ordered. (5) The icemaker in the fridge freezer is working although it does appear to be very full. To be on the safe side, we have had the old fridge freezer replaced. (6) The sofas - you either love them or hate them. Many thanks for your feedback. Graham

Spacious property on the banks of Loch Katrine
Great location for those who want to get away from the rat race, located in a very quiet area on the bank of Loch Katrine, surrounded by beautiful scenery. The house is spacious and easily accommodated 10 of my party, however it could do with a couple of touch ups; showers could do with re-siliconing and remove the mould, new mattresses and pillows as these were heavily stained and not comfortable to sleep on (only found when stripping the beds at the end of the stay) and a general deep clean of the property to remove heavy dust deposits and cobwebs.

Peaceful & beautiful location - right on Loch with great walks straight from the door. Great space inside the house. Downside was WiFi (pretty much non existent, which with house of teenagers is tough! Especially as was advertised with WiFi). Also gate to loch couldn’t be in locked meaning kids needed to climb over it with kayaks etc.

Katy, many thanks for your review. Sorry about the slow WIFI, but please be advised that a new super fast "line of sight" broadband system has now been installed to the Lodge. This gives speeds up to 50mbs. We've been waiting a long time for this, so are super excited. Yes the gates to the loch are locked as a safety precaution. There is however a slipway around the corner from the property. Thanks Graham

Fantastic loch side accommodation, to a very high standard.
This property is fantastic, from the start the communication was great, Graham answered all questions we had very quickly, the lodge has been done to a very high standard, a lovely huge kitchen with plenty cooking and fridge facilities, a great sitting room with outstanding views over loch Katrine, with a pool room next to it for endless games of pool, all the bedrooms and bathrooms were excellent again large with some of them having loch side views, the garden and sitting area, also have stunning views, and the garden runs down to the loch side, with a wall running round it, for a family holiday, enjoying the piece and quiet this was a hidden gem, Far enough away to enjoy a quiet piece off Scotland, but only 20mins away from amenities, would recommend this lodge as a great place to stay, and would definitely come back. A week at Stronachlachar Lodge
A clean, comfortable house in a beautiful setting - well presented and stocked. The house is situated at the end of a 12 mile scenic but narrow challenging road. Unfortunately, at the time of our visit, many advertised local activities at Stronachlachar were not available to us. The steam-boat has not been running for some time as it is undergoing long-term repairs, local paths and a cycle road around the loch were all also closed due to landslips which occurred at the end of 2019. This was a significant disappointment to our party. The ongoing promotion of the property continues to show the steam-boat as an attraction. While we would not expect you to detail this as a limitation, we feel it is unfair to emphasise this item, in particular, when it is not available to the visitor. The Pier Cafe is real bonus to a visit to the property. Overall, a good holiday in spite of poor weather, but a significant disappointment that there are a number of limitations to activities in the immediate area at this time.

What a great experience. We had three families staying together - so spacious and lots of hide and seek fun in such a huge property for the kids. Plenty of utensils for many meals and baking, good fridge and freezer space for a week’s stay. Also efficient washing machine and dryer. Log fire was great to have and easy to use. All bedrooms and bathrooms clean, nicely made up and decorated. Had clear skies with no light pollution allowing us to see the stars at night which was a real treat. Recommend this property for group get togethers.

Fantastic stay!
I booked this property for a week to celebrate my 60th birthday that needed to suit my wife and I, my brother and wife, my three adult children with partners, my grandchild and 2 dogs! We wanted somewhere in an awesome location with large bedrooms, large reception areas and lots of interesting local things to do. Wow this place did not disappoint! The position is absolutely stunning right next to loch Katrine with a commanding view and lovely garden with seating area. There's a café on the pier nearby that provided a delicious meal on my birthday night party in the house and made it very special. All of the rooms were of top specification and you'd be happy to sleep in any one of them. This made it very easy to decide on rooms with no "duff" one to draw straws for which is inevitably the case when staying in a multi bed house. Handily Sainsbury's deliver to this location which was very useful as it is a little remote. We stocked up on day one and didn't need a lot more although there is a good Co-Op down the road at Aberfoyle. For a large family it was brilliant, we could all come together, have our private space and it never felt like we were on top of each other which can happen even with the closest of family's when sharing a property. We caught brown trout on the lake with a hired boat and guide, visited Glengoyne Distillery for a tour and had a memorable game of golf at Callander. The ultimate trip to Scotland. A few things to be aware of: broadband is poor here so take the opportunity of switching off and enjoying the location ;-) We loved it and hope to return soon!

Amazing property in fantastic location
This is a beautiful spacious property with amazing views over Loch Katrine. We were 11 adults and two dogs and we were delighted with the amount of space we all had. Yes the road up from Aberfoyle is a bit of a drive and quite tight in places but the views on the drive up are equally amazing. The comfort was lovely although a couple of our “shorter” guests found the sofa’s a little too big for them but this is down to personal taste. The bedrooms are huge and with plenty of storage. All the showers are a very good size and the bathroom is just wow!.never ran out of hot water either. If you are looking for a large house with amazing views then I don’t think you could do any better than Stronachlachar Lodge. The owners were always prompt in their replies to any questions we had. Thank you Graham and Cath for an amazing place to stay and celebrate my 60th. Dave nd Brenda

Lovely loch-side lodge
We absolutely loved our stay at Stronachlachar Lodge! We were two families traveling together, and we could easily have accommodated a third with the 6 bedrooms and giant kitchen. The location is just beautiful, and the Pier Cafe (no more than 2 minutes from the doorstep) is delightful - fantastic food, coffee, baked treats, and warm friendly hosts. We also loved Kinlochard and the Wee Blether down the road. For day trips we went to Loch Fyne (fantastic seafood), Glengoyne distillery for whiskey tasting, and Sterling Castle (fun for the kids), and of course we rode the Sir Walter Scott across the loch. The drive from Aberfoyle to Stronachlachar is a somewhat grueling single-track, so be prepared for that. It's well worth the trip once you're there!

Lovely-but.......
The picture on VRBO site shows a large house, but what you don’t know is that you are renting just the left side if it. There is a fence in reality which is not shown on the picture. It does have the number of rooms that are mentioned, but it is just a surprise. Also their ad downplays the road which is mostly a narrow lane on the last few miles. and in some places practically impassible. We had rented a van as we had 9 people and the road from Aberfoyle was a hair raising experience. We cancelled some of our side trips due to the road. there was no instructions for the dryer and it took us all week to figure it out. The internet was practically impossible and as a couple of our people work from home and were expecting to do so for a couple days, it could not be done. One had to go into the yard to make calls. Finally, we never saw the owners. When I have rented other VRBO properties (this was my third), the owner dropped by to check, or left a small welcome gift, but we did not see them at all.

Anne, Many thanks for your review and sorry your stay did not meet your expectations. We do try to provide as much information as possible prior to guests staying, predominantly through a 30 page Welcome Book which details practical information on the lodge, facilities available and suggested places to eat / things to do. In terms of the lodge itself, the property is extremely large (including the original staircase from when it was a hotel), occupies the only lochside garden plot and is accessed through its own private drive. A Google Earth plot of the extent of the property is shown on our website. In terms of the road to Stronachlachar, we do suggest guests take a break prior to commencing the twenty minute journey from Aberfoyle. As with a lot of roads in Scotland, its always recommended to take your time and enjoy the beautiful views. With regard the WIFI, Stronachlachar itself is on a line only exchange from Inversnaid, which means it will take time before it is upgraded by B.T. Along with the local community we continue to made regular requests to B.T. to have this expedited. Despite the issues noted, I hope you enjoyed your stay. Please be rest assured we always take feedback very serious. Thanks Graham

Our family had the Best vacation ever at Cath and Graham's beautiful lodge on Loch Katrine..the home was the right size for our clan of 9 , the kitchen was amazing, well stocked and enabled us to cook and enjoy a glass of wine together... The views were amazing, we were close to hiking and biking which we all enjoyed and we were close to an amazing cafe, The Pier cafe, which is owned and operated by Brian and Ciaran where we all on a regular basis went for breakfast and proper coffee and ate dinner on the weekend. I have food allergies and was well accommodated at the Cafe including getting a delicious carrot cake made just for me for my birthday celebration!:) When we got back home everyone expressed their desire to return to this beautiful Stronachlachar lodge and will plan to do so in the future! Beautiful house, perfect for large groups.
We were a large group and hired the house to celebrate New Year. Aside from the location, which is beautiful, the standard of accommodation is really good - in particular, the living spaces are huge which meant we could all eat together and spend time together indoors without getting on top of one another. I was really impressed by how well equipped the house was - the kitchen had a wide range of appliances, equipment and cutlery/crockery. The games room was also a nice surprise with board games and toys for the kids. It very much felt like a home from home. The owners were really responsive and helpful during the booking process and provided lots of useful information before we arrived. There is also lots of helpful information and instructions in the house for all of the appliances, wood burning stoves, etc. All in all, everyone loved the house and had a great time. I would highly recommend Stronachlachar and hope we will be able to return for another visit in the future.

The website and house book do need some updating , e.g. there is now no DVD player (replaced with smart TV which will no doubt enable streaming when the super fast wifi is installed!) and the wifi code in the book is an old one. Broadband is slow, but a digital detox goes with the relaxing experience.! The road from Aberfoyle is slow and twisty (as pre-warned- ) and in snow and ice even slower, so one really feels to be in a special place. We also went over the Dukes Pass in icy conditions which is not to be recommended! The went to the Pier Cafe once for lunch and from that experience can recommend it. Graham and Cath were exceptionally helpful in answering all my queries before we arrived and we had a simply wonderful (and white) Christmas. Thank you so much.

Beautiful house, even better than the pictures!
We booked Stronachlachar Lodge for a 4 night break with family and friends. Our family have known the area for years and it is a great location for a getaway break like this, just don't forget anything! The views of the loch are amazing, no matter what the weather. The house is just beautiful. There is so much space, the decor is very tasteful and the whole place feels very luxurious. Although I had viewed the website pictures before booking they still didn't do the house justice (the opposite of what you usually find!). Our first half hour in the house was spent with everyone racing from room to room saying "Oh Wow! Have you seen...?". We were pleasantly surprised that there was an extra first floor shower/toilet and bedroom with en suite that we hadn't been aware of from the website layout, so plenty of showers and loos to accommodate 12 people. The beds were also very comfortable! The poolroom was great and well used during our stay as a (mostly) friendly rivalry emerged. Although the rest of the accommodation in the house was fully occupied, the good design meant that we weren't aware of anyone else and the Lodge felt very private. The Pier Cafe near the house was a welcome addition to the area and we experienced nice food and very friendly service when we all met there for lunch on the Saturday, a great start to our break. The only minor downsides to the house were the very poor broadband connection and the lack of any kind of bluetooth speakers to listen to music (I'm afraid the 90s getto blaster and eclectic CD collection didn't really cut it for us!). I realise the remote location will affect the ability to do much about the broadband, and also that normally when going on a holiday like this it shouldn't be your top priority. However, if it can't be improved it would be good to make this clear in advance, especially given the expected lack of phone signal, as I had a few unavoidable, important things to deal with while we were away re my own business and ended up far more non-contactable than I had predicted, leading to a bit of stress rather than relaxation. I'm sure we will be back, but this time with the expectation of a beautiful "off-grid retreat"!.

Susan, So glad you enjoyed your stay and many thanks for the great review. With regard broadband, we're currently in contact with B.T. to see if the speed can be increased. The Scottish Government have a commitment to role out superfast broadband to the whole of Scotland, so here's hoping. With regard bluetooth speakers our current system broke down, so we're in the process of identifying an improved system. With regard mobile phone coverage it is patchy round Stronachlachar, but there is a payphone in the Lodge. Thanks Graham and Cath
