Mariners Court was a good, affordable option in a convenient part of town. The rooms were not fancy but comfortable. We got the train with heavy suitcases - good to know if you do that don’t follow directions that go via Butlers steps. It’s a bit much with heavy cases

Staff was friendly and professional. Located near local restaurants and a quite central (near Hyde Park and 30 min walk to the Sydney Opera House). Complimentary hot breakfast was very good but eggs and meats were oily. Coffee machine and filtered water dispenser were great. Rooms are well priced for the area but felt unsafe at times (think I saw a drug exchange outside the building down the block). Bathroom felt worn and saw small bugs fly out from drains on a couple of days. Cold water took a while to flow in the old fixtures. Bed was comfortable. Small tv had good selection of channels. Fridge, instant coffee, cookies were nice to have. Overall an ok stay.

The property was in a good location. However the property itself could use some updating. Not having the hotel office open in the evening created an unsafe feeling checking in at night. The breakfast is nice and the staff very pleasant. We could keep our luggage in the office with the use of a washroom with a shower. That was a bonus. Good deal for the money!

Pros: walking distance to botanical gardens, opera house, circular quay, shopping and restaurants. Breakfast included - simple but yummy (Toast, eggs, sausages, cereal, cows and soy milk, yoghurt, fruit, coffee) Cons: reception is only open from 9am to 5pm so if you need any assistance you have to ring the manager who to be honest, is a bit hostile and seems to get annoyed if you ring him after hours. I also paid for a family room with a deck but got given a room without a deck. When I questioned the manager he said he actually had upgraded us to a better/newer room without a deck (meaning I had gotten a better deal despite not getting a varanda room) but to be fair, our room did not look new, it looked exactly the same as the room next door WITH a varanda, that we saw open while the housekeepers were cleaning. So I basically feel a bit ripped off by the hotel. Also, when reserving this hotel with Expedia the booking stated “reserve now, pay at the property” however a week before our arrival I got a AU$500 deposit. When I rang to check will I was being charged before my arrival, the manager said it was because it was a busy time in Sydney (during Taylor Swift concert) and they need a deposit to secure the booking. It was ok with us because we already had the money saved for accommodation, but it’s unfair that the hotel stated one thing on Expedia and didn’t honour it when time came.
