About this property
Entire place
You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.
Enjoy stunning coastal views and wonderful sunsets from our comfortable cosy cottage in Portmahomack in the Scottish Highlands.
When you arrive at Bayview Cottage for the first time, and climb the stairs to the living room, you might have a "wow" moment!
Get the kettle on, sit down and relax in the lovely reclining chairs, and drink in the wonderful view. Then open the doors out to our wonderful balcony, which has even better panoramic views - over the village rooftops, the beach, the harbour, the Dornoch Firth and the Sutherland hills beyond.
You've arrived. You've come somewhere different. And you've got a whole holiday to look forward to....
Take in the "big skies". Because you are high up, sometimes the birds will fly past at eye level. And in the evening sit and watch the sun going slowly down over the Dornoch Firth - because although you'll be on the east coast of Scotland, you'll be looking due west over the sea!
Once you tear yourself away from the wonderful views, there is plenty to enjoy around the village. A 2 minute stroll down the hill will take you on to Portmahomack's famous long sandy beach and little harbour. Visit the local pub, the village cafe, the restaurant. And you don't even need to leave the village to do your shopping because there is an excellent little shop. Have a visit to the Discovery Centre, which will tell you all about the Picts in the area and other local history.
If you're feeling energetic, why not have a round of golf at the 9 hole course in the village? Or take a walk out to Tarbatness Lighthouse, the second tallest in Britain? Or over to tiny Rockfield village, which although only a mile away, has a rugged coastline, completely unlike ours. Or go down to the beach and have a swim in the sea? (Why not? Lots of people do! - although we prefer to just get our toes wet....)
You will probably want to do a bit of exploring and we are a pretty good base to explore the Northern Highlands. Inverness, Cromarty, Lochinver in the west, for example. Or we are only 9 miles off the NC500 - take a trip up to Dornoch, Dunrobin Castle, and beyond. (By the way if you have an electric car, you can use our car charger).
Bayview Cottage is great for those seeking peace and quiet, or for a family holiday or to be with friends. Dogs who are prepared to sign our good doggy citizen code of conduct are welcome too.
And we are great year-round. The Port in summer is fantastic but it is pretty special in winter too. Imagine a crisp cold winter walk along the beach, and coming back in to cozy Bayview, with the stove on. You probably won't sit out on the balcony much - so enjoy the views from inside the glass.

We have been to portmahomack several times but this was our first stay in this property.
It had everything we could need for a cozy/comfortable stay and as the weather was kind to us, made full use of the deck to take in the scenery
Superb property! The views from the balcony over the Dornoch Firth were just lovely. The cottage is so comfortable and really well equipped, with everything and more that you need!
The cottage was clean, cosy and perfect for a short break with my daughters. There are fantastic views across the Firth and different sunsets every night. The host Duncan communicated throughout the booking process and gave us information about the local area. There is. Pub in the village which serves good bar Marla’s and a restaurant called The Oyster Catcher. which serves a bespoke tasting menu
Excellent holiday cottage very well equipped, with stunning views over the Dornoch Firth. The only thing that could have been improved was the TV, which was not setup for Freeview or Sky. and was not easy to navigate.
