"This place was great for the most part. It’s definitely a bit on the older side of things, but with that comes a particular charm. The room was amazing. Spacious, with its own gorgeous Onsen. No real air condition controls other that an analog “low, mid, high” toggle. The beds were very firm, which isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. The included kaiseki meals were spectacular. If you’re looking for a bread, eggs, bacon type breakfast this is not a place for you. If you want to experience the traditional Japanese meals, I couldn’t have been more pleased. In addition, there is a fantastic room service menu after 4pm. The common areas are well maintained. The public onsens are pristine. Location is amazing. The service was impeccable, as one expects from Japan. Everyone was kind, helpful, and respectful. The biggest issue I had was the smell of the hallway outside our room (3rd floor). It had a constant smell of food. It was a little overwhelming, but did not carry into the room. All in all, we very much enjoyed our stay and would recommend it for People looking for a traditional Hakone Onsen experience. I do believe the hotel could highly benefit from a remodel. It has the potential of being absolutely spectacular."

"Great stay at this historic and authentic ryokan. It is absolutely serene, right by a strongly flowing river which creates a beautiful back drop as do the mountains. There are a few onsens on property that you reserve which was no problem reserving, even last minute. The staff are very polite and friendly, accommodating your every need. The meals were in room and very good. We requested western style meals as we are not keen on raw seafood. The presentation was on point and the food was very good. We walked into town one night which was lively and fun. One tip, you can get off the train at Yamuto station - don’t go to the next stop beyond unless you want to experience an old path with steep steps - we had luggage and it was quite a feat. If you disembark at Yamoto it is a very easy walk to Fuzumiro; a bit uphill going there but not bad at all. The trip back to the station is a bit downhill; again very easy. The Ryokan is just past the old train station and there is a pedestrian crossing just before the bridge - take this as the Ryokan is on the other side of the road. It is not marked bit there is a wooden design on the front. I am so glad we made the trip to come for a one night stay - wish we would have e extended to at least two nights but our itinerary did not permit this. We highly recommend!"
