The municipality is bordered by Spain northeast, east by the municipality of Marv?o, south by the municipality of Portalegre, the southwest by the municipality of Crato and west and northwest by the municipality of Nisa.

The romantic character of the town of Castelo de Vide, associated with its gardens, plenty of vegetation, mild climate and proximity to the Serra de S?o Mamede, became known as the "Sintra of Alentejo" (this term is attributed to King D. Pedro V ).
