Menkemaborg

De Menkemaborg is in oorsprong een uit de 14de eeuw daterend huis, een zogenaamd ‘steenhuis’, dat in de loop der tijd vergroot is. Over de familie Menkema is weinig bekend. In het begin van de 17de eeuw vergrootte het echtpaar Clant het gebouw tot een U-vormig huis met de ingang naar het oosten.
De kamers, waaronder de grote zaal, herenkamer, studeerkamer, slaapkamer, keuken en kelders zijn volledig ingericht met mooie meubelen, zilver, porselein, koperwerk en portretten uit de 17de en 18de eeuw. De vertrekken zijn levendig ingericht alsof ‘de bewoners zo terug kunnen komen’.
