Mértola is a Portuguese village raiana dodistrito Beja, Alentejo region and sub-region of Baixo Alentejo, with over 2 000 inhabitants. The village lies situated on a hill on the right bank of the Guadiana river, just upstream of the confluence of Oeiras river.

It is the seat of the sixth most extensive municipality of Portugal, with 1 292.87 km ² and 7274 inhabitants (2011), divided into seven parishes. The municipality is bordered to the north by the municipalities of Beja and Serpa, east Spain, south of Alcoutim and west by Almodovar and Castro Verde.
