Amazing house and beautiful property!
We stayed here for a conference at Crystal Mountain, which was about. 7 minute drive, Everyone loved the place! It was clean, comfortable and easily held the 5 adults, The appliances were high end, beds were very comfortable, amd it was relaxing. One of us also fly fished the river, and said it was the perfect way to end a day. I would highly recommend this place to anyone!

Excellent Rental Cabin!
Super impressed with this house and our stay. Came in to Steelhead fish with family and visit some areas around. We had 12 adults in our group. Clean house that has everything. Great river views and we caught 5 Steelhead. Our group enjoyed the firepit by river and game room. Wish we would have had more time there! Thanks again!!

Very beautiful well maintained home. Lots of homey nice touches. Working with the host was excellent! The reason for the lower score was addressed with the host. This was a very quiet neighborhood & I bet in summer it's an even more beautiful place to be.

Fantastic Cabin!
We had a fantastic stay at the Northern Nest. There were 13 in our group with adults and kids and plenty of room for all of us. We have stayed at many cabins in the area over the years and by far this one is the best yet. Clean, comfy and well stocked with all we needed. We were in area for skiing and to get away and relax. Had a fire by the river which was perfect. Great game room and loved the location of house to everything local. Distillery is close by. We already booked for next year. Can’t wait to come back!

Beautiful cabin, loved our stay!
Of the three cabins we have stayed in, this was definitely the best. It was so beautiful and we loved every minute of our stay. We would definitely consider going back again during the summer, or again in the winter. If I had to nitpick, I wish it would have been clearer and not buried in all the details that the hot tub isn't actually on premises, but at the nearby Crystal Mountain. It didn't really matter as we had fun without it.

Can’t miss out on this amazing cabin!
Dave was always attentive and had their guests in mind. Furnishings were well thought out and updated, all while remaining welcoming. The sound of the River was a welcomed amenity too. We can’t wait to come back and maybe try it in the summer too! Thank you Balsams!

Fantastic Winter Stay!
Our family absolutely loved this house. Plenty of room to sprawl out on three floors and comfortable seating. House was very clean and had everything we needed. The game room was awesome and provided some great competition. Crystal Mtn. Is nearby and we skied one day there. Stop at the Iron Fish. Great place and very close to house. Would love to come back in summer.

Magical Winter Wonderland
We are a group of nine friends and we all loved this cabin. Add to it the most incredible Michigan snowfall and it was the perfect winter wonderland setting. We all want to come back in the summer - we are checking into availability now, and several want to bring their families for their own vacations. Thank you for everything!

Amazing Cabin!
We had an amazing family Christmas stay! Quality of the cabin is outstanding. House is very well stocked with everything you need. Weather was unseasonably warm so we enjoyed a fire down by the river. We had a large family gathering. Beds and bedding was no problem. We had smaller kids who absolutely loved the loft to sleep in. The game room was a hit with everyone! We had a small issue in the house. David responded incredibly fast and all fixed within a matter of hours. We will rent again in the summer. Highly recommend this cabin!

Christmas gathering at the Betsie River
This is an excellent property with frontage on the Betsie River. The kitchen has just been updated with new granite counter top, new backslash. We found it to be well stocked with everything needed to prepare multi family meals. It has a great common room gathering point with access to a full width deck - great views of the river. David, our host is a great communicator, gave us good tips on the surrounding areas - made checking in and out simple. He responded timely to any messages. This property is also close to Crystal Mountain. No disappointments with this one! Great property equally great host.

Beautiful home on the river!
This place was VERY nice! It has a spacious kitchen area where we cooked breakfast, a great game room, and loved the multi levels so we could have our own space to sleep and relax. Thank you!

Fantastic Property!
Can't say enough great things about this property. We had our family of four and another six relatives. Plenty of room to spread out across three floors. The river views are amazing from the house and deck. I was even surprised to still see some salmon from the fall run. Super easy in/out river access for fishing. House was very clean and everyone loved the stocked kitchen and the basement gameroom. We already booked for next year. Thanks again!

Amazing Place!
This place is amazing - It was very clean - the kitchen was well stocked with bowls/utensils and all things needed for cooking. The pictures look exactly how it is - We fished in the back (yes - we saw the salmon right in the river!), had camp fires, played board games and just had a much needed relaxing family weekend with family. Location is great - very quiet area yet close to many attractions. Host was great with communication. Very easy arrival and departure. I recommend this to anyone who wants a great quiet getaway! A definite 5 star rating for sure!

Big Chill Week at the Northern Next
The Northern Nest was an outstanding, pristinely clean house for the annual gathering with six of my former dorm-mates from the University of Michigan (all about 70 in age). The interior of knotty pine through the house — walls, cabinets, closets — gave it warm, homey feel. The kitchen was well stocked with all cabinets/drawers labeled inside to make food prep and cleanup a breeze. And all wall switches were labeled, preventing frustration on figuring out how to turn things on and off. David was an excellent host with timely and prompt communications throughout the process. We recommend Northern Nest without reservation, and would love to return again!

Our business, Sutton Entertainment Group was contracted to bring our twelve piece band, The Conspiracy Band from Columbus, Ohio to provide the entertainment for a wedding at the nearby Watervale Inn. David was wonderful to work with and responded immediately to my emails and texts. We were able to book all three of his beautiful homes to accommodate the musicians stay. We booked the Northern Nest, Lemon Lodge, and Balsam on the Betsie. All three properties were extremely clean and were as depicted in the photographs. There is a great deal of information on the area provided by David for those that are staying a longer period of time. I would highly recommend any of these properties.

The house had enough space for everyone to spread out. Having a house on the Betsie River was perfect for the kayakers in the family. It was also relaxing to hear the flow of the river. We cook while on vacation and everything we needed was available. My 10 year old grandson LOVED having the loft to himself! Great area with lots to do!!! Dune hike at Sleeping Bear Dunes, Frankfort, Glen Arbor, Leeland and Traverse City. Fantastic vacation!

Up North Fun
We were a large group with 2 grandparents, 3 adults/parents of the littles and 6 total kiddos. The cabin was lovely and had plenty of space. The property offers privacy and lovely access to the river. Sadly there were no fish in the river this time of year. Enjoyed using the fire pit daily and the provided kayaks down the river. Location was central to Frankfort, grocery store in Benzonia and Sleeping Bear Dunes. Everything is at least 20-30 minute drive. Only did the art trail at Crystal Mountain. Would gladly return and David was a great host answering all questions promptly. Only suggestion I have is to bring warm pajamas if sleeping in the basement with kids. Extra blankets are provided which is great. Can’t wait to come back

10 Days of Bliss
Every Christmas my husband and I give our kids and grandkids a 4th of July getaway. It then becomes the topic of conversation for the next 6 months. The group was not disappointed. The house has a wow factor! From the log cabin exterior to the log beds and the thoughtful decor throughout, the home is definitely a treat for the eyes. We spent most of our time on the deck. Grilling, playing cards, enjoying adult beverages, had a kiddie pool for the youngest grandchild and eating. Hobo pies and s’mores were enjoyed by the bonfire at the river. Several of us enjoyed kayaking for the first time and made several trips down the river. The age of our group ranged from 87 to 17 months. It was a perfect place to make memories!

Very quiet and peaceful neighborhood, can hear the river babbling from the deck. Kitchen and house amenities were all there for everything we needed having access to the kayaks and water toys worked out really well. 50 Birthday Weekend
The house is absolutely beautiful and perfect for a large gathering (enough comfortable outdoor seating). We rented the house for my husband's 50 birthday. We have been renting VRBO homes for years and this was by far the best experience we have ever had. The secluded setting, house appointments and the responsiveness of the property management was excellent. The only thing that we were slightly disappointed in is the walkway down to the river and fire pit area was longer than it looks in the pictures and does shift around when there is weight on it so be careful.

Family Get Away
Picked the location based on interests. Fish, golf, wine tastes etc. and it did not disappoint. Did all the above and the house was perfect. Provided everything we needed, inside the layout allowed conversations while cooking or just recapping the day and the downstairs had video games, card table for board games and bumper pool was a hit for everyone. Located on the river, close to golf, wine and Northern adventures. Highly recommend.

Cannot recommend this place enough for a up north stay! The owner was very easy to get a hold of and instantly replied with any questions. There was a lot to do for adults and kids!! Very clean, updated and modern cabin :) Will come back for sure!

Simply Amazing
This place is absolutely gorgeous (inside and out). We cannot say enough great things about our stay. The house is warm and welcoming and has a ton of space. There is a beautiful fireplace in the sitting area which we used plenty. The downstairs is filled with fun and games (teenagers loved it down there). The rooms are spacious and the beds are ultra comfortable. Crystal Mountain is 10 minutes away if you want to venture out. Highly recommend Iron Fish Distillery for food and spirits. Amazing vibe there. David was truly a terrific host and offered many suggestions. We would love to stay at his place again. The home is really a hidden gem.

I booked this cabin for a “couples trip”. It was perfect for our little getaway. It snowed the whole time while we were there and the view was absolutely breathtaking. I will definitely book this cabin again in the near future. The host was very easygoing and overall a great host.

We have stayed up in Thompsonville with a small group for the last 4 years and love the area. This place is one of our favorites of the 4 we have stayed at so far. Well stocked, the host was great to work with, the fire pit was awesome, nice deck, sleeping was nice. My only critique would be the fire place upstairs didn't work well, no matter what we did we couldn't get it to stay lit. But I would not let that stop by from staying again and I am sure the owner will get it fixed!

The communication with David was excellent and timely. We were able to checkin a few hours early. The home was very clean. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped. The river was a wonderful amenity. We spent hours enjoying the fire pit, right along the river bank. We will definitely be back!

Such a beautiful spot!
Our church team of pastor's came up to this beautiful cabin for a long weekend to meet, plan, and coordinate for our upcoming year. The house was easy to locate, but remote enough to be quiet and peaceful. Everything was comfortable, and there was plenty of space for all us to enjoy. It was one of the cleanest places I've personally ever stayed at with VRBO. Our hosts were very detailed in communications and so very kind! They went above and beyond to make sure we were cared for and gave us plenty of information about the area and what was expected.
