Hotel ILUNION Mérida Palace

"It was a well located hotel. They had Nice rooms with a nice small pool in the roof. We were disappointed with the limited menu of the hotel for being a five star location. They had one menu for lunch and dinner. It was located in the center of the city, in the plaza mayor. The temperature of the city was brutal. It had interesting historical sites, that we loved."

The room we stayed in this time had the bathroom renovated and the outcome was excellent. The staff are extremely helpful and attentive. Parking is plentiful and private to the hotel. "Knowing only a few words of Spanish was of no hindrance to our stay at this perfectly located hotel in Badajoz. For instance, the reception staff helped us order taxis and transitioned seamlessly between Spanish and fluent English, for which we were most grateful. Having said that, all the staff were friendly, courteous and helpful, initiating polite salutations in both languages as they recognised our Spanish language limitations. The restaurant staff quickly learned our choices of drinks, both hot and cold. Often they would offer us our coffee just as we liked it. A very nice touch, thank you! As mentioned by previous reviewers, the hotel location is perfect for arrival and departure by bus through the convenient proximity of the bus station 2 minutes walk away. We had many day trips to neighbouring towns, even one to Seville, by clean, efficient and inexpensive buses. The historical walled city is a leisurely 10 minute stroll away from the hotel, with many cafes en route. On days when we got weary after a long walk, a short, inexpensive taxi ride returned as efficiently to our comfortable hotel and room for relaxation. I would recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a base in the city/region for exploring the history and culture in this beautiful part of Spain. We stayed for 8 nights in May before moving onto Portugal."
