Our family really enjoyed our stay at BLR! The condo was comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. The location is fantastic with easy access to the lake club.
We had a great time at this condo! Check in was easy, the location was great, and we had everything we needed. We've stayed there twice now and already have our third trip planned.
Great condo with plenty of space. The location is excellent being very convenient to the club house. The whole area is beautiful and relaxing with also many things to do
Felt like we were the only ones on this beautiful mountain lake, so pretty the way they developed this lake, so serene and peaceful.
Lovely staff in the Lake Club and at the Greeter’s Cottage. Great communication from the Property Manager. The kids loved the condo with the sleeping loft!
We’ve been renting this condo for several years. It’s pet friendly, convenient to the pool and lodge, and overall a wonderful stay. Host/Property manager are exceptional. We look forward to our visits twice a year. The property is like paradise with few crowds and the most beautiful lake and golf course in the Carolina mountains. 5 star stay.
Our family had an incredible Thanksgiving Weekend at Bear Lake Reserve! We chose this condo due to its close proximity to WCU, since our son attends school there. The condo had everything we needed to make our Thanksgiving meal, and enough room at the dining table for two of his friends to join us for dinner. The property was beautiful, and so peaceful that we didn’t even realize we had neighbors. Being located near the Lake Club made it easier to enjoy the activities they had scheduled all weekend long. My favorite part was the lack of cell service, so my phone never even rang. My husband and kids connected to the condo’s WiFi and they were able to stream their shows and do homework without any interruptions. The owner was easily accessible through text message or email, and ready to answer any question we asked. I would fully recommend this vacation rental to anyone whether you want to enjoy all the amenities the resort has to offer or stay to yourself. Our family did a little of both and we are forever grateful for the hospitality we were shown and all the memories we made!
We had a wonderful stay but would recomend a few things
We had 3 generations from 17 yrs to 77 years together to celebrate Christmas, and had a wonderful visit... The travel through BLR was long and winding as promised and I would recommend arriving in the daylight for that reason. The kitchen was fully stocked and the space was sufficient for our size group (6). House was overall clean. I would recommend better lighting inside and out. It is very low light and difficult to see curbs and steps. We had the fire alarm go off for no reason and and several power outages. That was no ones error just poor timing. But it would have been nice to have the owners contact info to assist with that. And one towel the should have been taken out of circulation before our visit. But other than those small things we had a great time and would highly recommend! We also had a sweet visit with the otter that lives in the fising pond!

Bear Lake
This place needs a complete update. The heating/cooling is impossible and VERY loud. First 2 days were spent without phone, wifi, internet, text, or email capabilities. Property manager tried to say it was an outtage, however all tenants around us had theirs. The soap dispensers pumped rusty old black soap that hadn’t been checked/cleaned in ages. There is an electric fireplace that doesn’t seem to emit any heat and sounds like a swarm of bees buzzing. This is definitely not 3 bedroom as a bed lofted over the family room has no privacy or noise protection. On our 1st night, there was NOT AN OUNCE of soap, shampoo, etc to use until we could purchase some locally (which is a 35 minute treacherous ride down the mountain). While we met lovely people at the Lake House restaurant, facilities, etc, we won’t be back to this outdated and less than clean unit.
This was just a wonderful vacation for our young family. While it wasn’t in a comfortable walking distance from the lake club it was an easy drive. The club amenities were wonderful and the lake was gorgeous. So many activities to do we didn’t have enough time

The condo was nicely equipped and in great condition. The location within the reserve was good for access to the lake clubhouse. Either by vehicle or the trail at the end of the condo buildings.
We enjoyed the amenities at the clubhouse. They could use some new pool cues and ping-pong paddles though.
There are some interesting trails within the reserve. They provided a good workout with some fairly steep sections. Not a golfer, but some great views from the course.
All the staff we met at the reserve were friendly and helpful.

We were charged an additional 30/day fee at the gate that was advertised as included in our stay, adding an additional 150. We are still trying to get this resolved. Other than that, everything went well and we enjoyed our stay. The views from the mountain are beautiful. It’s a 15-20 minute drive from the gate to the cabin, depending on the conditions (very curvy). The 9-hole golf course was beautiful and the club restaurant was great. There are some nice hiking trails on property. The condo was clean and well equipped, although the carpets could use cleaning or replacing. We enjoyed the living room fireplace. The internet and smart tvs worked well for us during our stay. Would love to visit the lake area during warmer weather. Thank you for hosting our Thanksgiving stay.
My wife and I enjoyed this home in Bear Lake Reserve. We arrived at night, which is pretty tough driving AND finding the addresses. Other than taking a little time to find the right home, our trip was fantastic. The property was clean, comfortable and perfect for our stay. The view was very nice this time of year as the leaves were changing. No Lake view from this home but it certainly was peaceful.
The hiking was very nice and the golf course was spectacular. We are booking this unit for one full month next September, I guess that means we were more than satisfied.
This is the 6th summer we’ve visited and even stayed for a whole summer before, so to say we love bear lake is an understatement. We always prefer the condos because of proximity to the lake club. This condo was clean, well taken care of & cozy. The only call out I want to make (because I missed it) is the condo is listed on VRBO as a 3 bedroom, but it’s actually a 2 bedroom with an open loft furnished like a bedroom. We sorta made it work, but it wasn’t preferable and didn’t give much privacy for my MIL who ended up having n the loft. I’d definitely stay here again if I was just looking for a 2 bedroom. We loved it! Easy check in & check out & has everything we needed!
We loved our week away in the mountains! The condo was exactly as described and was perfect for my wife and I, three adult children, and one puppy. We loved the fireplace and the view! Bear Lake Reserve is exceptional and beautiful too. We hiked, played pickle ball and ate some very nice meals at the Lake Club. As described by others, grocery shop before you arrive as it's about 30 minutes or more to a store of any kind. Once you enter the gate of the Reserve its another 5 miles to the condo and this will take over 20 minutes because of the very curvy and steep roads. I highly recommend arriving in the daytime. We visited the Highlands community one day and returned after dark. It was very difficult to see the road. Beyond that, we had an incredible time and plan on returning in the summer or fall so we can play some golf and swim in the lake and pool. We highly recommend this condo and Bear Lake Reserve.

Not what was advertised
After a 10 hour drive to get to what we had chosen for our vacation- a water view unit at Bear Lake Reserve we were amazed to find out there was actually NO WATER VIEW at all. Secondly the listing states 2 bedroom and a loft. Sadly the 2nd bedroom is also upstairs which should be noted by the host. After several conversations with the property manager and us explaining that there is no Waterview at this property I was told multiple times the ad never states that however it did until we complained and then they updated it to say there is water views during the “winter months”. Needless to say, my husband and I were very disappointed and ended our vacation short. We were only credited one night not the two nights we deserved. Very disappointed with this experience and as seasoned travelers, and VRBO guests this host experience was absolutely the worst.
My family and I stayed over the Thanksgiving holiday and had a great time. The kitchen was fully stocked with a variety of small appliances, glasses, and cookware. The house was clean and well maintained.
We had a great visit to Bear Lake Reserve! We love hiking, playing in the creek, fishing and enjoying the magnificent fresh baked blueberry muffins at Bear and Bean. We had wonderful dinners at the Lake club. We love the location of this VRBO. It was perfect for our family.
