"This place looks like nothing from the road. Probably an farmhouse at one point. They had some nice Christmas lights on the building to cheer it up. They are maybe 5 miles (8 km) west of Vik. The road to town goes up and over, with some switchbacks, so it could be dicey for tourists in the winter if the weather is bad. I was traveling with my daughter, so the room with two beds (room #2) worked out well. I really liked this place. The young man who checked us in was friendly and effective. The room was nice and clean and quiet. We had flown in from the USA, arrived at Reykjavik at 7 am local time and spent the next 12 hours sightseeing and driving, so when we got to Volcano Hotel, we were tired. Ran into town for dinner. They leave the front door of the hotel unlocked and go home for the night, so that tells you how safe things are. There are not many other businesses or people around. The hotel has a southern view and you can see the ocean not too far way. The shower was a bit odd for an American, but I have no complaints. The water was hot and the water pressure was good. No surprise in Iceland. The bathroom was large and clean. The breakfast was the best we had in Iceland in our 4 days. Included with the room. A young man cooked us scrambled eggs to order, but the items they had out for us were excellent. (Breads, cheeses, meats, etc) The little espresso/latte/coffee machine was a nice added bonus. "

"Nice place that worked perfectly for the 1 night stay for our family. Modern, clean, bar with food onsite was great for our late arrival. Nice to have the kitchenette and views from the room we chose. Didnt realize it was also a hostel (?) in another area so there were plenty of young people working and hanging out in the bar, but it wasn't in any way negetive. The bartender was friendly and the pizza & wine were very tasty and appreciated after a long day. Would definitely stay again."

"Was fortunate enough to be upgraded to a superior room and we would definitely book it again. The room is cozily furnished, spacious, and had a large bathroom. The bedding is comfortable and the toiletries were from L’Occitane. We enjoyed a view of the town but I think a view of the mountains is also available. Breakfast had great variety and plenty of vegetarian options. The hotel is also located some distance from the main road so it’s more secluded and private. "

"The staff was friendly and room was comfortable for our 2 night stay. While there was construction happening during our stay it only impacted driving in and out of the property."

"The place was clean and tastefully decorated with thoughtful amenities. We wish we would have booked a longer stay. We were only there overnight and the weather in Vík was horrendous but this apartment made us feel safe and cozy. The only drawback is the weather shakes the windows and is REALLY loud - thankfully we had white noise machines that helped. Oh and getting into the apartment takes some figuring - there’s no pictures or written instructions other than the code so it took us some time to see that you open the door into a hallway and then the interior door has a hidden keypad that is awakened by touch through the tiny cracks along the "

"We stayed at Hotel Katla for 2 nights and it was perfect for seeing things on the south coast. We loved the thermal hot tub especially, and breakfast hot the spot"
