Great all around.

The hotel is a good walk from the river and the old town. Staff are helpful, rooms clean and well maintained and there is a nice ground floor bar. Great view from the rooftop bar.

We loved the eclectic decor and the garden. We had a bedroom with an attached lounge. Unfortunately due to water damage we could not use the lounge.This did impact our stay with reduced space. The owners were apologetic but their misfortune affected our stay with the use of space. The breakfast and location were great. Overall our stay was impacted with the odour of the flooded room drifting into our sleeping space. Despite apologies from the owners no further compensation or consideration was given, except next time you stay we will give you a discount. The room was also close to the kitchen of the restaurant and the noise from below continued until after mid night on some nights which also impacted our stay.

Amazing view from the rooftop bar where the staff were so friendly & helpful. Great choices at breakfast buffet. I gave a 4 star rating as housekeeping didn’t replenish our towels or coffee pods during our stay otherwise it would’ve been 5. We had to go down to Reception to report this as no telephone in room. The matter was dealt with very swiftly but it was annoying having to wait to shower after a very long hot day.

This was a last minute stay for us as our plans changed due to a forest fire in the Douro valley. The hotel room was very clean but unfortunately the shower didn’t work when we arrived, the fault was quickly fixed when we reported it to reception although I had to go downstairs for this as the room phone didn’t work. Breakfast was ok, it was unlabelled which made it much more difficult for me to find items to suit my dairy intolerance and I wasn’t confident in the quality of staff advice when I asked for help. I found enough food but it meant my choices were very limited. Clear allergy labelling and/ or an allergy folder or information sheet on allergens in standard items for customers would really help with this. Staff were very helpful in taking care of our bags and we enjoyed exploring the local area, especially the botanical gardens. We also went to the Casa da Musica for a performance by the Symphonic Orchestra and this was totally amazing, I highly recommend. All in all, this hotel was good value but could be better with slightly more attention to details and allergy information.
