Hard beds but amazing service!
Cute hotel with a nice view even tho the casino is right in front. Both breakfast and dinner included in my stay which was a nice surprise! And the cleaners left it super clean and nice daily - super är thankful! Beds weren't the softest but I barely slept so it's okay.

Great location, friendly staff. Cleaning was so so. Replaced all towels every day not just ones on the floor. Very plain room good closet, small bathroom

Good for the money
I hated their towels, the bath towels are very small, and as thin as a paper. Breakfast is whatever, but location is amazing, absolutely loved the location, smack in the middle of all hustle and bustle.

Above expectations
Having read other reviews, we were ready for some of the things one might complain about, but overall it was better than expected! It is only a 3 star, so don't expect 4 or 5 star comfort. Rooms are basic, but spacious & very clean. Bed hard but two singles bolted together so very big. Shower worked really well all the time. Loo seat was loose and not fixed in the week we were there. Surely the cleaners should report this as well? Useful fridge in room, but no kettle or tea making facilities. Air con worked well. Booked a room with full sea view, but unfortunately were in the half of the hotel overlooking the Algarve Casino in front, so sea and beach view only half, but lovely. Also the balconies have been filled in with a tin sheet, so unable to sit & look out. Obviously some idiot had climbed over in the past! Restaurant seemed fairly busy both lunch & evening with inexpensive menu but we ate out as there are so many other really good eating establishments nearby. Shame there is no bar in the hotel, but there is a very busy one next door! Breakfasts were not for the full English eater, but plenty of continental type breads, ham, cheeses & fruits. Hot dog sausages, scrambled & hard boiled eggs every day with chorizo & what was described as bacon on alternate days. Staff all very pleasant & helpful without exception. Three lifts, all good. Parking very limited at hotel, but plenty on waste land not far behind hotel, had no problems finding spaces. Would def stay again!

Excellent value, modern hotel with great staff who were very helpful, all spoke English. Buffet breakfast included was acceptable but not outstanding. Buffet dinners were cheap but not as good as local restaurants. Location ideal for beach, tourist shops and many bars and restaurants, but very quiet. Sea view almost totally blocked by building opposite, though. Our room was large, bathroom good, air con excellent, TV OK, WiFi good, all rooms have private balconies.

Very close to the beach and friendly staff though the breakfast could be improved a bit as it's enough but there. Isn't a Portuguese feel to it unless you count the toasted bread and fruits from Portugal.

Location tops everything else
This hotel is stuated right in the center of beach life: there are excursion ticket vendors across the street, car and bike rentals nearby as well as very many restaurants, pubs and cafes.You need a few steps to swim in the ocean or to enter "nightlife region" of Praia da Rocha. The air conditioner didn't work as needed in our room and free breakfast isn't for healthy eaters, but our room was nicely cleaned every single day and hotel staff was extremely nice and fluent in English. I would definately recommend such a cheap hotel with such a great location!

Great location, close to beach, bars, shops etc. Couldn't have chosen any better. Staff on reception were incredibly helpful especially Andrea and Raquel. Would go back to santa Catarina every time.

I was very pleasantly surprised at the size of the bedrooms. Bed very comfortable. the staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast included was good. The one night we dined in, we enjoyed the dinner.

This hotel was ideally situated to enjoy the beautifull beach and marine..helpfull friendly staff and a really nice continental breakfast to start the day....room was a little tired ..well equiped with fridge and also aircon.

We were on the 1st floor over the top of the restaurant drilling and knocking early morning also seat on loo broken reported to front desk no one came to fix it all week This will be the last time we stay at this hotel. very disapointed with it

Hotel was cleaned every day, very comfortable, t,v cound of had more english channals. Staff were very pleasent nothing was to much trouble. Hotel was close to the centre whithout it being noisey.Good view of the sea if you asked for a seaveiw.

The staff at the hotel were amazing,my husband passed away while on holiday there and the staff couldn't do enough,they went above and beyond there normal duty to assistant me with any requirements I had. Would certainly recommend this hotel

Arrived for 2 days .graet location..close to the praia da rocha .very nice beach and local restaraunts. The hotel staff was very nice. The room was very clean and the breakfast was fantastic. Great value for the money

Fantastic Value Hotel
We had a lovely time in the area of Praia Rocha. The hotel was very good and at the price, exceedingly good especially since it also included breakfast. The evening meal on offer was fine but not special, but we did have it each day at 11 euros... appetizers, soup, main (small buffet choice) and dessert (small choice). Serving started at 7 p.m. which was a little later than we normally eat. The location is excellent, just at the end of the shopping road but easily accessible to the beach. TV in our room gave us endless world news but nothing else in english. Housekeeping was daily. Shower had constant hot water. We had no kettle or hospitality tray in our room but reception kindly gave us a pot of hot water each day, with cups and saucers. We had a front room, 3 floors up (with lift). It had a small balcony with a table and one chair! but overlooked the sea. There was a second bedroom with ours with a put-you-up bed and a sofa. We didn't ask for it or use it. The walks along the beach and up on the 'cliff' are really lovely, it is a beautiful area. The weather in early-mid October was brilliant, 30 degrees and sunny every day. Supermarket prices in Algarve were high, glad we took coffee etc with us. Meals out ranged from 8-25 euros per main dish but wine etc was cheaper than UK. I highly recommend this hotel if costs need to be kept down.

A nice week in Praia da Rocha, the hotel was not the most luxurious but it was clean and the staff were very friendly. The breakfast was fairly basic, not a huge choice but the location is the best thing going for this hotel, just opposite the beach. And the wifi worked very well in our room on the first floor which we were really happy with.

Nice hotel short walk from beach. Great value.
Wifi works well in lobby and higher floors, not so well on lower floors. Can access internet with cable as well.

Excellent trip to Algarve thanks to Santa Catarina
I highly recommend Santa Catarina! 1. Free breakfast, and good variety! 2. Amazing views. I'm a budget traveler so normally the view is not important to me. I stayed 1 night in a city view room and switched the next day to an ocean view room and it was well worth the small upcharge. The decks are bigger, the rooms are bigger, the bathrooms and showers are bigger, and the view is one of a kind. Spring for the extra few euros and get an ocean view room! 3. Location! Right across from the beach and only steps from the main street with bars, pubs, cafes, restaurants, pizzerias, ice cream, & entertainment. All open even in March with no crowds! 4. Free wifi in the living room. It doesn't reach the rooms usually, but I got wifi on my deck. The showers were great with excellent water pressure. The tv didn't have many channels but did have English channels with movies. There are connections for wired internet access for computers in the rooms and in the living room and there is a computer in the living room you can pay to use. The staff is really helpful and greeted us every time they saw us and spoke excellent English. There is always someone at the front desk. I can't praise them enough! 5. Very clean and comfortable. I had an excellent stay and attribute a lot of that to the great hotel!

Great Service in the perfect location
After a less than acceptable experience in Albuferia, arriving in Portamao and being greeted by the professional courteous staff at the Santa Catarina was the perfect way to get my vacation back on track. The hotel is in a great location for the beach, eating and nightlife. I am not a fan of rooms on the first floor, but our first floor room was bright, had a balcony, and was quiet at night. the bathroom is luxurious, but the shower had amazing pressure and was ideal for getting the beach sand off of you. Our small balcony afforded us an ocean view, which was perfect for a glass of wine in the evening. The parking lot, if you have a rental car, is tight and there are not always available spots, but no worries there is street parking in the neighborhood and a municipal lot four blocks away. I must close by once again stating that the staff here is so accommodating and sincere. I'd book again...

Location, location, location
Super little hotel in a very good spot, close to everything, bars, shops, restaurants and the massive, sandy, clean beach, but also far away enough so that noise was never an issue. The safe in the room was free, there were complimentary beach towels, great staff and a nice breakfast. I didn't have dinner there so I can't comment and there was not a bar in the hotel, which was actually quite handy! I would happily stay there again.

Was in this hotel in February of 2013. Rooms are simple, but clean. Given the price of $33/night, it was great. They do use some quite strong chemicals, as other people mentioned in their reviews, but it did not bother me. The breakfast included in the price was very good and coffee was quite tasty.
