Nestled in the middle of the heather-clad hardy moorland of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, sitting at 1,500 feet is Nenthead, England’s highest village. Originally built in the 18th century to house workers for the local lead and silver mines, making Nenthead one of the earliest purpose-built industrial villages in Britain. While the mines closed in the 60’s, for the mining explorers there are still hundreds of miles of accessible mines available locally.
The nearby market town of Alston is only 4 miles and is a bustling town with a reputation for fantastic local mustards and cheeses. Alston is also the starting point for the South Tynedale Railway, England’s highest narrow-gauge railway. Ramblers Rest is a quirky barn conversion set out over three floors with a relaxing sauna on the lower ground level and the living room on the first floor offering you fantastic views onto Nenthead village. Surrounded by views of farmland for miles this untouched and quiet area of Cumbria is perfect for that get away holiday.

I have been looking at this cottage over the last couple of years.
I have been looking at this cottage over the last couple of years. And finally decided to book it and go. I'm so glad we did. It's a lovely quirky cottage in a beautiful spot the views are amazing. Loved watching the rabbits on the telescope. Lovey scones jam milk prosecco and flowers on arrival. Everything you need for a lovely stay. We made use of the sauna and the lovely sized bath. There are some lovely walks and lovely drives out. We can't wait to go back

Spent 4 nights here and it was exactly what we needed to get away from the hectic home life.
Spent 4 nights here and it was exactly what we needed to get away from the hectic home life. Lovely views, cottage a bit different layout to what you'd expect but very nice all the same, also over looking the valley with the river Nent running through it. Not many shops close by (1), but Alston is only a few miles away and you can get pretty much anything you need from there. On arrival there was some milk, fruit loaf and jam left for us with the Log burner ready to go (Extra wood / coals too) Also recommend the Cumberland Inn, stopped there for a quick drink after a long walk, nice atmosphere and views to the rear.
