I met this American couple at early arrival and brought them in to a toasty warm house where they seemed most impressed. They were visiting family 30miles away and did express concern at the distance they were staying away from family. They were there for about 6 hours and messaged me to say that they were unhappy as there was a kerosene smell which surprised me as a very health conscious man had departed the previous day after a long stay. Our way of doing business is to always crown the customer. Customer is King. I immediately replied and said No Problem. I asked the guest to cancel the booking so that my availability calendar would be freed up for that Christmas week, the busiest time of year. I told them that once cancelled and available for rebooking they would get a full refund. They didnt do that, nor did VRBO even thought I also asked them to cancel it. Hosts are penalised if they cancel. No person before or since had any issues with any smell. If you leave oil heating on constantly with no window open it is certainly not healthy as well as being costly and unfair to the host. I consider this review most unfair to me as I was offering a full refund once either the guest or VBRO cancelled - a click of a button for either party which neither managed to do.
