Amazingly peaceful with friendly hosts!
The family that run this property are utterly wonderful. We had a very comfortable bed with beautiful views and were quite sad to leave. I would wholeheartedly recommend a stay here.

Fantastic hosts where nothing was ever too much problem. Amazing breakfast with excellent produce and variety. Stunning grounds. Artistically decorated. Unique and quirky. Perfect location for a break. We would go back just to stay at the house and with Rowena and Mike.

Welcoming atmosphere
A very welcoming atmosphere. Artistically furnished. Many wonderful details for ease and comfort. The bed was quite low and we had difficulty getting out of it. A lovely breakfast. Beautiful grounds. A very nice stay.

Wonderful hosts!
We were only able to stay one night, but would dearly have loved to stayed all week!!! Wonderful hosts in Mike & Rowena. Thank you both so much. Can’t wait to go back to this lovely establishment. We even had a game of snooker before we left!

Fabulous place
We loved staying here! Rowena and Mike were wonderful, warm and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The grounds and countryside were beautiful and it was so quiet at night. The bed was incredibly comfy and the room was clean and spacious. Care was taken to ensure little packaging waste - milk and juice in glass bottles that were used again. Breakfast was delicious, really wonderful, fresh and locally sourced ingredients perfectly cooked! A fantastic place and stay. We’d love to visit again!

I wasn't sure what to expect from The House near Bath. Firstly the location. Do we stay in Bath with a price increase or outside for better value for money etc. Woolverton is 15-20 minutes south of Bath. Its also well placed for surrounding areas like Frome too. Driving to Bath, we found a car park space fairly easy in the morning but it got busier as the day went on. Taxi and bus are an option too. Then theres the property. Is it a hotel or a B&B? It kind of has the best bits of both. Free parking, wi-fi and lovely surrounding land with a nice night sky. Leaving the best until last are the hosts Mike and Rowena. Really nice people who provide the personal touch which is why the ratings are high for this place. The breakfast is cooked to order with food from locally sourced farms. The quality of everything is not sacrificed for profit. They could easily use inferior food drink and toiletries for the sake of profit but the customer experience is put before that. Breakfast is included and cooked to order. Elsewhere fruitbowls, cereals and continental breakfast is all high quality and/or fresh. The bar located in a large conservatory is stocked with Britsh drinks and spirits from independent or family run businesses, again supporting lcoal and British companies. There are plenty of books and games for children too and a marvellous snooker table too. Mike and Rowena make this place. You want them to do well as they put so much into it. Highly recommended and great value.

The House Near Bath
We stayed on the opening weekend. Made to feel very welcome by Roweena and Mike. It's a fabulous Hotel with lots of history. Lovely nice touches in the room and Clean. Breakfast was a great start to the day.

Host Rowena and her husband made us so welcome for our recent one night stay. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable and we loved the decor and atmosphere. Very much made to feel like we were a house guest in their home. Loved the fact that all produce and drinks were sourced locally and breakfast was delicious. Perfect location, just a 20 min drive into Bath and much better value for money than spending a huge amount for accommodation in the city centre.

Lovely quirky hotel with host Rowenas own individual stamp on it. Extensive grounds has plenty of seating dotted all over for a quiet sit away from it all. We were in the coach house, it was lovely, very spacious and spotlessly clean. Breakfast, as cooked by Mike, was very tasty, best scrambled eggs anywhere, with a range of organic juices to pick from and fresh fruit on offer.

We were looking to stay somewhere close to Bath for a weekend treat and found this place. What a wonderful find. A beautiful old house with stunning views across open countryside and a choice of places to eat close by. We couldn't fault our stay, the hosts are marvellously accommodating, the rooms are well equipped and in keeping with a house this old and the breakfast simply superb with maximum use of local produce. Thank you for a great relaxing stay and excellent gin and tonic.

The building and rooms were absolutely stunning, our room had a beautiful view looking over the garden and field of cows next door. It was a quiet peaceful room To relax in with exotic furniture that myself and my boyfriend loved. The breakfast was extensive with vegetarian options and it all tasted lovely. The owners were lovely and have clearly put a lot of time and money into their hotel to make it so special, will definitely be back on our next visit to Bath/Somerset and will recommend to everyone! Thank you!

Although well outside of Bath transportation by Uber or bus was easy. This is an old Rectory and the rooms are large with high ceilings, and you have a great view of the English farmland. We stopped there first and Rowena was able to give all the Bath tour tips AND she is also a restaurant specialist about all the great places to eat in London, and by my family's 4 thumbs up, she was RIGHT!!! I highly recommend you stop in the House Near Bath when you arrive to get used to the time difference, rest a couple of days, tour Bath on your own and let Rowena give you the low-down on restaurants not to miss in London. You GO, girl!!!

A lovely stately castle feel about this quiet b&b even the horseshoe drive way thrilled us. We loved the interior design and theme that carried throughout into our gorgeous room with a newly renovated modern ensuite. Rowena's warm welcome at the door which continued through our stay made us feel at home and special. Breakfast was absolutely delicious and I loved the choice of table settings/crockery etc. The beautiful views from everywhere in the house made us feel a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and the cows kept us entertained at breakfast. The conservatory and bar was such a lovely relaxing area I would have like to have spent all day there! Thank you Rowena & Mike for a lovely stay and look forward to seeing you again

This would be the best stay ever. Rowena and Mike are grouse people and could not do enough to make our stay more enjoyable. Email before we arrived to tell us where we could get dinner and did we want them to book. The room was great with probably the most comfortable bed and pillows we have had since home. Breakfast was included and was exceptional. The usual breakfast but you get a menu for the main part which is just a guide as you can adapt as you like and it is individually made by Mike fresh when you order. All ingredients are listed for where they come from. They really make you feel like part of the family. Cannot rate them high enough.

My favourite Aussies, although Peter did try to pass himself off as an Austrian born in Wolverhampton!! It was one of, if not the best, weekends we've ever had here so thank you for being part of it. And I am so touched by your invitation to stay with you in Brisbane and much as I would love to see you both again I think I've 'done' Australia after my two enjoyable years there long ago. So you will just have to come back and stay with us again instead! A welcome break
A very welcoming house with an excellent breakfast menu. The overall decor was in keeping with the house giving a feel of "rustic charm".

Great place to stay to explore Bath. Mike & Rowena were fabulous hosts, very welcoming - they could not do enough for you! The breakfast was amazing! Lovely choice of fresh fruit, cereal, yoghurt and juices to start followed by a choice of cooked breakfast all from local produce. Additionally there was a choice of bread and pastries to follow if you could manage it! Would definitely recommend and return.

We had a lovely stay at The House, perfectly placed for a trip into Bath. Much more personal than the big group hotels. Rowena & Mike were both so welcoming & wanted us to have a comfortable stay. Beautiful views too, very relaxing.

Home from home
I would like to thank Rowena and Mike for looking after me this week. I hate being away from home and usually dread working away. Not this time! The house is a fantastic old building with lots and lots of character, very spacious rooms and a sign of established quality throughout. Mike greeted at the front door by my first name which set the scene for the week. The only thing that has more character than the house is Rowena! Her passion for locally sourced produce and provenance is equalled by her knowledge of football. Two things very close to my heart (shame about her choice of team)!!! When next in the area i will definetley stay at The House again. Thank you :-)

Delightful quirky hotel that offers a very personal and top class service. Just outside Bath therefore offers both tranquil countryside and convenience to the city. Rowena and Mike made our stay relaxing and perfect. We will definitely stay in touch and can't wait to go back again.

We stayed for a weekend at The House, we have stayed before and this trip was as per-usual: lovely! Beautiful views, comfortable beds and scrumptious breakfast. Can't wait to visit again.
