Needs attention

Steep hill to rear of property, only room for one vehicle as neighbours need access at all times, cleanliness fair cobwebs everywhere, washing left in machine, outside decking furniture and steps down to the garden rotting and needs replacing, bed mattresses uncomfortable beds and duvets felt damp when you got into them, sofas in the lounge extremely uncomfortable, small lamp broken, wii did not work all discs very badly scratched board games were either broken or had no batteries in or pieces missing. If your going to advertise facilities that are provided they need to be in working order, comfortable and a good standard

The communication from Adrian was brilliant and the welcome scones were a lovely touch. The view from the deck was beautiful (even with the horrendous weather!). The cottage is very tired and in need of updating (broken blinds, very old uncomfortable sofa, extremely small shower, not enough seating for 6 people outside) but it was clean and beds were fairly comfortable. Although the listing says 10 mins to beach there are restrictions for dogs and it’s more like 30 mins walk (10 min drive) to a section of the beach you can walk your dog on. This was disappointing as it was one of our requirements to have a beach to walk the dogs on within 10 min walk of the accommodation. I guess we should have looked it up but would be useful information to add to the listing. As the weather was so bad we spent more time in the cottage than we thought we would which meant we probably noticed more of its faults than we would have done if we could have enjoyed the outside! Overall a good location to explore the area but not to enjoy dog walking on beach nearby. Comfortable (if a bit tired) and good value for money given the price of other properties in the area. Communication from owner very good 😊

Lovely stay at Old Saltys
The cottage was clean and comfortable and had everything you needed for your stay. The view was wonderful. The location was good for us, its a good hill back up if you want to walk into Westward Ho, takes about 15 - 20 mins. We travelled to Port Isaac, Saunton Sands, Appleby, Croyde Bay all within wasy reach. My only complaint would be the patio furniture, its well overdue a rub down and varnish or to be replaced.

The house was stunning. Lovely kitchen with everything that you could need. Beds very comfortable. Shower is amazing! The extras we got from the brilliant hosts, were very much a welcom on arrival and we would recommend getting there breakfast tray. Beautiful quality!! All topped off with views to die for!!! Will be back for sure!!

Beautiful cottage, very clean and well equipped. The views are stunning of the sea and coastline. Bed was very comfortable shower was good. Wonderful welcome pack of scones, gorgeous jam and cream, apple juice, milk and wine, thank you. The weather was kind to us, we had a lovely week.

The view really is what makes this property, it was so lovely to open the curtains and to be able to see so far into the distance. We were comfortable and had everything we needed. It was peaceful and quiet at night and during the day.

Quaint and lovely stone cottage with the most fabulous picturesque views over the ocean. Everything you need for a family home style holiday. Fabulous friendly hosts quick to respond to any queries. cottage was clean and bright and welcoming. Lovely and quiet location with sounds of the sea. Short walk to all the local amenities in westward ho which is a fabulous seaside resort Loved our stay is this cottage and have already booked for next year. 100% recommend

Just breathtaking
I had so many plans to visit other places in Devon and we stayed in Westward Ho the entire week. The property was amazing, well maintained, had a great living space and more importantly amazing views and you could hear the waves from the veranda. Parking and manoeuvring the car was no issue and we loved every second in the house and the town. Beautiful and completely dog friendly with enclosed, safe garden. Quiet neighbourhood. Just perfect thanks

Stunning views. The cottage was spacious & welcoming. Extremely well equipped & lots of lovely touches like the soap! We had fantastic weather & spent hours on the decking. There was an issue with the fridge & the owner replaced it with the next day. Lots to do in the area. We will definitely book again.

Perfect Holiday Cottage
As far as holiday cottages go, this is perfect! The views are outstanding, even Seafield House can be seen from master bedroom. Only 10 minutes walk to the beach. Idyllic location and cosy cottage, we will definitely be returning.

The house is stylish, bright, warm, clean and welcoming. The views are wonderful - even when the rain lashed down! The bed was very comfortable and enabled much needed quality sleep. The kitchen is ridiculously well-equipped and I loved the generous-spirited cupboard contents! Friendly neighbour too!

Had a great holiday in this cottage along with my husband and our black lab:) Very clean, Covid 19 safe and comfy bed! Some lovely touches like the welcome pack, which we thoroughly enjoyed/appreciated and the little wrapped individual soaps, that you can purchase in a fab little shop in Westward Ho selling local product....I could have spent a fortune in it!! Great location looking down onto Northam Burrows and yes it is up a bit of a hill, hence the amazing views, but less able people can easily park down in the village. Many super dog walks from the front door which is a huge bonus for us! Two very minor points and they certainly wouldn't stop us booking this cottage again are, the wifi was a little patchy/slow at times and the furniture on the decking could be a little more comfortable. Thank you for a fab week!

A little hard to find, having the property number (374 I think) would have helped. Once found we settled right in (and thanks for the welcome food). Loved the property and area. Not been down to north Devon for too many years. Westward Ho was lovely as was Appledore. We spent the week touring Port Isaac, Tintagel, Boscastle, Bude, Clovelly, Ilfracombe, Combe Martin. The view from the property was worth half the rental cost alone. This reminded us of what we’d missed. We will be returning customers with the rest of the family.

Fabulous place
We absolutely loved this cottage, and the area is fabulous for dog walks on the beaches. We didn’t travel far to explore as really didn’t need to! The photos don’t give enough credit to how lovely the cottage is, and it has a good little garden too for sitting in the sun, drying clothes, & letting the dogs out, as well as the great decking area with fabulous sea views. I can’t wait to visit Old Salty’s again!

1st time to Westward Ho for many years. Property is fabulous with a fantastic view over Westward Ho!, the beach, Lundy Island and the estuary. I was pleasantly surprised that we could hear the sea from the decking. The home was very clean and had everything we required, and more. The welcome pack was also unexpected and very welcome. As a family of 5 with 3 teenagers, we had plenty of room and it was good to have 2 bathrooms for getting ready in the morning. As others have said, be aware that the hill from Westwood Ho! is really steep. We were unlucky with the weather so we’re not able to enjoy the sunsets or decking as much as we would have liked. Would I stop here again if we came back to Westward Ho! - absolutely

Short stay! Lovely Sea View
Need an 'Old Salty's' sign on the property and allocated parking space, as it was difficult to locate. Parking and turning around was tricky with a larger vehicle. Property was well equipped, however it was in amore elevated position than expected, and quite some walking distance from the beach. Overall view, the property would benefit from 'freshening up' : master bedroom paint peeling around window, new roller blinds, new carpets, new sink / drainer, however it was lovely to wake up to a sea view from the master bedroom.

Great communication meant that the whole stay was easy to organise. The property is well furnished, warm and comfortable. The outside space was enclosed which meant we could let the dog have a wander around safely. Would definitely recommend it to friends.

Could not fault the property. Attention to detail was spot on. The photograph on line of the property appeared to be a lot closer to the beach than it actually was. We found it difficult to walk up the hill from the beach so had to take the car every day. But that said it was an enjoyable stay and will return.

Old saltys cottage.
The property was good. Only two of us went instead of the original 4 that were booked to go. Think the downstairs twin bedroom was a bit damp feeling. Soafas were a bit uncomfortable and telly remote was a bit temperamental. My only problem was the position of the property. It was at top of the hill(cliff?) not safe to walk down the two winding roads without footpaths that lead to the town so it meant we had to use the car every time we went out.

A family home away from home
Our 3rd and best stay at old saltys. The most incredible views and sunsets from the terrace. A great cottage with all the best home comforts. A perfect base for exploring some of north devons hotspots (including crabbing at appledore quay, instow beach, big sheep, gnome reserve, westward ho itself). Love it so much....hope to return again! Thanks for having us :)
