Magical Christmas get away
Amazing. So clean tidy everything you need catered for. Garden is stunning and relaxing. All decorated for Christmas. Could not ask for better place to stay. Will defo be going back.

Great Place!
We loved staying here! Glad and Kenny were so warm and friendly, and their cottage was very comfortable and cozy! The garden was beautiful and a joy to walk through as well!

Perfect short stay
We stayed with our 6 year old when going to Kynren and so glad we did. This is truly a hidden gem. We had such a relaxing stay and loved exploring the peaceful, beautiful garden. Our hosts, Glad and Kenny were friendly, helpful and we have reccomended to many of our friends and family to go and experience this little slice of heaven.

Lovely Lodge
Fantastic lodge, very clean, well equipped and the kids loved playing in the garden. We were made to feel very welcome. This is a great location for visiting the surrounding area including Durham, Barnard castle, Bishop Auckland, High Force, Kynren etc. Hope to visit again in the near future.

Perfect holiday lodge
Situated in the centre of a beautiful garden, greenery and wildlife all around, this holiday accommodation is the most relaxing place to stay.

Magical setting
A wonderful place and helpful and friendly hosts and Johnny Depp looking after the grass cutting! We had an assortment of weather but only minor problems, a few drips from the conservatory roof in the noisy downpour and it got a bit warm in the hot sunshine - but thats because we couldnt leave the door open as our 2 dogs would have found a way into the fields. A truly magical garden with follies and lovely nooks and crannies. Bird feeders next to the conservatory kept us entertained. Just 1 suggestion would be a little gate to secure the rear patio area - for those people who have dogs like ours! We really enjoyed our stay and may return next year to see the bell tower!

We have had a glazier look at the roof to try and find the spot where the few drops of rain came in, unfortunately he couldn't see anything at the time but we will monitor it to resolve the issue. The suggestion for a gate at the rear patio area is a nice idea but unfortunately we are unable to do this as it is a fire escape route. Best wishes Glad & Kenny

Set in the large , beautiful garden of the owners this holiday lodge is spotless and well laid out . There is a small outdoor area for eating which is completely private being surrounded by trees. Also are many seated areas in the garden both for shade and sunshine. The very comfortable double bed is in a room which is surprisingly cool in very hot weather. Hosts Glad and Kenny would certainly be hard to beat. This is a delightful place in which to relax.

Our first visitors since becoming pet friendly. Michael, Laura, Niamh and Sunny were a lovely friendly family, great at communicating expected arrival time. The lodge was left in immaculate condition. We have no hesitation in recommending these visitors and would love to see them return.

Unbelievable
Don't think about it, just book your stay here! It is worth a visit to the area just to see this delightful property. Glad and Kenny are charming and friendly that what they've done with this property is a marvel. Be sure to take time to allow Kenny to give you a tour of the grounds. Highly recommended.

The pictures really don’t do this property justice. There is good safe off road parking and the hosts Glad and Kenny couldn’t have been more helpful and welcoming. Good welcome pack. Very clean cottage with all the facilities you could need plus speedy WiFi and Netflix. The icing on the cake though was the beautiful garden with lots of seating choices. There were bird feeders just outside the kitchen window and a great variety of birds and birdsong. It all added up to a very tranquil and relaxing place to stay. The property is also well placed to see the sights - which were all only a short drive away. Highly recommended.

Glad and Kenny gave us a very warm welcome when we arrived at their property but weren't intrusive at all during our stay. The lodge was very well equipped, clean, warm and the provisions and welcome basket were excellent. We stayed over Halloween weekend and the garden and lodge were decorated which was great fun. All in all a very relaxing, peaceful stay but close enough to thmain roads to be able to get around easily. Thank you Glad and Kenny, we hope to be able to stay in your lodge again in the future.

quiet, quirky and well provided
this trip was hugely improved by our experience with our lovely hosts. The property is quirky little scout hut with a vast well heated conservatory living space. soft beds and plenty of additional extras to make a stay comfortable and stress free. plenty of parking which is good as you will need a car to get anywhere reasonable. We had no problem visiting Locomotion railway museum, Binchester Roman Fort, Barnard Castle and Durham city. The garden and house were decorated TO THE MAX for Halloween which made the break even better for our 5 yr old.

Kynren Weekend
We booked the lodge for the weekend to be handy for Kynren and then discovered so many other local places we wanted to visit. Glad and Kenny are so knowledgeable about the area and made some great recommendations of where to eat and what to visit. We all thoroughly enjoyed watching the birds feeding and the moor hens crossing the lawn in the beautiful grounds. Kenny gave us an entertaining tour around the folly, the pond, vegetable patch, greenhouse etc. and pointed out all the quirky features - it's like a mini "Forbidden Corner". The Lodge is very comfortable and the kitchen well-equipped - Glad and Kenny even went out and bought a cafetiere when one of our party asked if they had one! They are lovely hosts and strike the perfect balance of being on hand to help out and at the same time completely respecting the guests' privacy. A fantastic place to stay and there's plenty to do apart from Kynren.

Relaxing and Magical Retreat
We got a feeling about Gardenside looking at the photos and description, reading the excellent reviews - and it certainly didn't disappoint. What a fabulouis place to recharge your batteries and ponder on the meaning of life. Our hosts were so accommodating and friendly and spending time with them was a joy. From a tour of their spectacular garden and its many features to encourage wildlife and create a serene and tranquil haven for wildlife. I am sure Monty Don would say that Glad and Kenny's garden is an inspiration and a good example of gardeners working in harmony with nature. The lodge was very clean and neat with a well planned kitchen - everything you need in just the right place! The welcome pack of eggs, milk, bread and biscuits was thoughtful and saved us a trip to the shops. The shower was heavenly - needed no adjusting and the beds were so comfy we slept in! Thank you Kenny for the garden tour which is a must, especially the folly which he has built so that it looks like an ancient monument. Thank you Glad for the log fire to keep us warm one night when it was windy! I thoroughly recommend this stay at Glad and Kenny's place - we hope to return one day! Kind regards, Sarah & Derek Telfer

Wonderful
The Lodge is in Glad and Kenny's wonderland of a back garden. The lodge itself is clean, and has everything you need. The view on to the garden is just lovely and you can see lots of birds, rabbits, and plants among the interesting garden features. The location is good for trips to Barnard Castle, Waterfalls, Beamish, and Durham. And the hosts Glad and Kenny were so friendly and warm and full of interesting information about the area. We would definitely return here.

Relaxing stay with magical garden
My husband, young son (3) and I enjoyed a couple of nights here. It was so serene that we spent most of our time in the lodge and grounds. It was a great way to end our trip and we wish we'd had longer. The garden made me think of 'Tom' s midnight garden'. Absolutely stunning. Kenny and Glad were extremely helpful and friendly hosts and we enjoyed all the treats they left us and their home grown tomatoes they invited us to pick. We hope to be back.

A short break at The Lodge in the Garden House
Nearby Barnard Castle has come to notice recently due to some unwanted publicity, but this detracts from the outstanding countryside around it. The Lodge is the perfect self-catering base from which to explore. Self-contained and situated in a large mature garden, which is enlivened by the creative genius of the owners, lovely people who made us feel very welcome. Highly recommended - you will count yourself lucky if you manage to book here: we do!

An oasis.
It’s defined by the surrounds - a lovely garden which can be seen all around the living area. When we arrived, the kitchen was stocked thoughtfully with bread, butter, milk and eggs (along with the usual tea and coffee). From the location, many attractions of the area are accessible but not very close. For example, it’s a 20 minute drive to Barnard Castle, Durham or High Force Waterfall.

Amazing lodge in tranquil settings
Great property at beautiful location if you are looking for a peaceful holiday. The lodge is very well appointed, clean and comfortable. Glad and Kenny are amazing hosts, nothing was too much for them and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. They also gave us useful tips on where to go, what to see. The starter pack of coffee, tea, sugar, milk, bread, butter and eggs was very much appreciated after a long drive. The gardens are truly breathtaking. We had a fantastic break and looking forward to our next stay.

Sunny stay in an enchanted garden
Glad and Kenny's garden house is a wonderful place to stay. Their garden is delightfully designed and perfectly maintained. Nestled amongst the many architectured constructions is the garden lodge. The sun streams into the conservatory all day long. The rooms are comfortable and clean. We had a memorable visit.

Weekend Stay
Our short stay was very pleasant. We had a rather busy schedule so unfortunately, did not have the time to properly explore the immediate neighbourhood but noted it looked quiet with little or no activity. This suited us just fine as the lodge served as a resting point. The kitchen and the bedrooms are more compact than expected, but what it lacks in space is more than made up in the surroundings. For long stays, the absence of a washing machine might be an issue. Otherwise, the property is well equipped. The welcome gift of flapjacks was also a nice touch.

Garden Paradise
Escape from the mad world into a garden paradise. Kenny and Glad have created a tranquil and peaceful space to spend their spare time in. The lodge is a comfortable, clean and modern accommodation that is surrounded by nature, we saw rabbits, squirrels and birds singing around us all day. Kenny, being a builder, put his skills to use in creating this garden, a ruined abbey with gargoyles, gates to entrances that went nowhere, pond with coy carp and stoned paths everywhere. Kenny and Glad were brilliant hosts and, as we were vegans went to the trouble to get us vegan provisions and even had cakes and brownies made for us. We wish them well in their new venture, but I'm sure it will be a success from our experience.

Wonderful break in Gardenside Lodge
Gardenside Lodge was just perfect for a couple of relaxing days away in very comfortable and spotless accomodation. The bad weather didn't even put a damper on our visit because the lodge is situated in such a beautiful garden and we were able to watch the birds and squirrels enjoy themselves right outside our windows. Glad and Kenny are wonderful hosts, and we all left with some produce grown in the garden.

Outstanding host, location and property
Glad and Kenny were great host from start to finish. I almost gave the online listing 4 stars as it doesn't do the property the justice it deserves! Glad and Kenny are happy to let us use their garden, which is absolutely lovely with their ruin, pond and lovely flowers. I could go on and on about the property and host, but quicker to say we would definitely recommend and look to come back

Better than home!!
Glad and Kenny were wonderful hosts. They made us feel so welcome. The Garden house accommodation is perfect. Everything you need to literally be home from home. The garden surroundings were beautiful. Stunning flowers, greenery and pond. We loved exploring and watching the birds and wildlife. Would highly recommend and hope to visit again soon.
