George Hotel

"A historic building in a central position in Frome, clearly an old coaching inn or similar. The bedrooms sit within a maze of staircases and corridors. Some stairs are best suited to young mountain goats. My room was on the top floor, up a narrow, steep stair with a tricky turn. My stick and I managed it, just, and staff brought up and took down my case. I expected an attic-type room, but it was spacious, with high ceilings, nicely laid out and with a clean, well-maintained bathroom - full complement of shower anti-slip mat, fluffy towels, and bath mat. The window to the front was open and Friday night in Frome is 'lively.' I asked for it to be closed for following nights. Breakfast was served in the bar. A fair choice of cereals, fruit juices, croissants, tea/coffee and a cooked breakfast menu to choose from, delivered plentiful and hot. The cooked element can be slow in coming if the room is full and any items in addition to the set menu, e.g. a second slice of toast, will be charged separately. Overall, fair price, charming venue, quirky accommodation, clean and warm...recommended, but not wholly accessible."

"It's an old pub with loads of character so the room was as expected. Room 11, creaky floorboards wood beams etc all just fine. Radiators worked well. The lights in the room are not as bright as you might want. All ok for me. Will be staying again end of the week again. Sunday lunch was great in the restaurant. Bar is cosy."

"Public areas are interesting and quirky, the mix of very old and contemporary really works, The room was rather tired and in need of TLC which is a real shame as this too was quirky, a big problem was the lack of lightning and sockets near the only mirror, this proved Difficult for me, also no shower, just a large bath in the room. Our room was overlooked by the restaurant so some of the blinds had to be permanent down, some didn’t even function, this really does need attention !!! also our room (6) was reached by very narrow, steep and curved stairs which would be a challenge for anyone with mobility issues. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and professional, Sunday roast yummy. The older parts of Frome are really interesting, some parts medieval I believe, the old cobble roads are very steep but well worth visit, there is a market with over 300 artisan stalls which cover most of the town, first Sunday of every month, the most impressive, and busiest market I’ve ever seen. Even though the Archangel was in my opinion a bit pricey, we had a lovely time, it certainly was an experience."

"This well appointed property was ideal for our visit and is about 15 minutes walk from the train station and 30 from the town. We enjoyed the outdoor space during the lovely weather and the fan helped to keep the bedroom cool at night. There is enough space for two cars on the drive. We would certainly look at it again if we needed something in the area."
