"We had a lovely stay at the Old Schoolhouse. Our room and bathroom were spacious. Our hosts had homemade treats for us each day (an oatmeal raisin cookie our first day and a piece of spice cake the next). Our breakfast was at a large table with the other guests. We loved talking to them, several of whom were walking the length of Hadrian's wall. The breakfast itself was delicious and generous. We would absolutely stay here again."

"Team were great , Sue in particular was very helpful and informative. Room was cosy and had everything I needed. Food was very nice, I missed breakfast as had to leave early. I would definitely return!"

"A good impression on arrival as you drive to the front door. There are a few appointed disability parking spaces but there is additional space that can be used providing it does not limit the thoroughfare. A large parking area is nearby but involves a 5 min walk back. Check-in was handled well for our group although dining that night as a group required meals to be pre-selected to help the catering staff. Whist complying with this requirement, the actual meal service was sporadic with some meals not as hot as they should have been. Rooms were well appointed with all the amenities including a fridge. The hotel has a few disability rooms available with a shower area & sliding en-suite door. These rooms must be requested during the booking service. Rooms have an aircon or heat system to warm the area and easily controlled with wall mounted thermostat. A room card is required to be inserted to activate room electricity to lights, sockets & heating. Beds were comfortable & duvets sufficient for a warm sleep. Rooms are of sufficient size to incorporate a small table and 2 chairs. Room cleaning undertaken each day if required and refreshments replenished - tea, coffee etc & 2 bottles of water. There are a few lounges where you can sit in comfort, have a drink which can be ordered at the bar. Eating is available in the bar area for lunches/meals seperately to the dining room. Pool, sauna etc is available & spa treatments can be pre-booked. Our 2nd 3 night stay at a good price."

"A lovely place to stay, really handy location and great value. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The only downside was the restaurant where the menu was quite limited and the food was from a packet rather than being freshly prepared (e.g. smash rather than mashed potatoes). There are plenty of eating options nearby though. Would definitely stay here again if needing to break my journey."

"Lovely and comfortable one night stay with a delicious breakfast. One star deducted as one of our rooms had a leak from the toilet which resulted in a very wet floor around the sink area. We didn't eat dinner at the pub as we were following up on a recommendation for The Duke of Cumberland in the next village, but we did pop in for drinks afterwards and enjoyed a quiz the barmaid had organised. It was also nice to see some local youths playing darts and enjoying themselves in the pub - it's rare to see 'kids' out these days and they were very polite too. All in all a lovely area and I'd consider going back in warmer weather to do some of the local walks."

"We had an overnight stay here, with our dog, in room 2. It is a garden room accessed externally via the carpark and small private decked area (seating provided). The room was comfortable and clean. Shower pressure wasn't brilliant, but for an overnight stay, it serficed. The hairdryer provided wasn't very powerful either, so took a long time to dry long hair. Basic tea and coffee making facilities were provided, but you'll need to take your own biscuits if you like having a snack with your brew! Booking in was straightforward and staff were both friendly and helpful. The inn itself is very welcoming with a dining area for breakfast and evening meals, and a comfortable bar area. Staff serving food and drinks were friendly, helpful and attentive. We would highly recommend the food - freshly cooked, beautifully presented and tasted fantastic! We had both our evening meal and breakfast here and enjoyed it all. The inn is easily accessible and quiet, serving both the guests and the owners of residential static caravans on site. There are also historical ruins adjoining the inn which were interesting to look at and read about if you enjoy a touch of history!"
