Very comfortable
Right next to the A38, so convenient for Plymouth or Exeter, for example. Lovely setting, quiet, friendly and a lovely room. I didn’t eat or drink there, but the provided me with a breakfast bag as I had to leave early. Near a national trust site (the abbey, I think) and I expect a good base to explore the region as right on the edge of Dartmoor, I think and not too far from the south coast

Stylish stay with ‘cosy room’
A lovely location, stylish interiors and cosy rooms. Our room was compact and had all we needed for comfort, however the bathroom was tiny and made washing etc very awkward and uncomfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful on the whole but for a hotel and restaurant - seemed to lack training in the basic customer service do’s and don’ts. A good selection of food on the menu and breakfast was well presented with a good range including healthy and vegetarian options. I did notice some dirt that had carried into the reception area (on shoes) that was still there at end of the next day as we left. On the whole a relaxing and comfortable stay here with some food and drink to savour.

Lovely place and very comfortable. The only criticism I have is the lady having loud telephone conversations on the landing prior to 9am. From what I heard she was organising things regarding the property. If I am wrong - I apologize, but I am right, she could perhaps lower her voice at that time in the morning. I was awake and it didn't disturb me, but I can imagine it could have disturbed others....

Thank you for your review, I’m glad you found Furzeleigh Mill warm and welcoming. I apologise for your disruption. I have identified, after a thorough investigation, that it was in fact a guest who was in the middle of moving homes who was on the telephone and speaking rather loudly. Our team never use the guest areas to make calls as we have office areas for that purpose. Again my apologies, if we were made aware we would have naturally asked the guest in question to lower her voice, or relocate to a more suitable area of the hotel for making calls of that nature. We hope to see you again at Furzeleigh Mill.

My experience at Furzeleigh Mill
Was really nice clean and comfy with a great view but little bit disappointed about food menu, not too much things to choose and I think need to have more options for breakfast as well a little bit over price, they need to fix the payment option or improve the pay machine because they have delay in showing the payment, I've been called next day day and told I didn't pay my drinks?!?! , I had to spend half an hour with my bank and to check and prove them my payment was done, 🙄that is little bit annoying. Anyway hope this feedback to help to improve in the future all this gaps and to become a better place.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review. I am very disappointed that you state we need to have more options for breakfast. We have a full continental buffet PLUS 13 hot different hot options. Exactly what were you expecting? How is that in any way lacking in options? It is the widest breakfast menu encompassing Our lunch menu carries 5 starters, 6 mains and 5 desserts, our award winning dinner menu has 8 starters, 10 mains and 8 desserts. Again- what more do you want? We cater for vegan, vegetarian, gluten free and diabetic diets. If you read through the feedback available on line I think you you will see how highly we are praised for our food. This is not to say we are so arrogant as to assume we cannot make improvements in any aspect of our business but to state our options are limited is simply without any level of foundation. In respect of price. I firmly stand by our value for money. There are very many cheaper places to eat and stay. You get what you pay for. Furzeleigh Mill provides excellent facilities, excellent produce and excellent service. Our payment options include all major credit cards, bank transfers and virtual card payment. When a guest walks out, leaving their room key without speaking to a member of the team, and have failed to settle their bill we are obliged to ensure that payment has been made. I apologise that you felt it was unnecessary to check that we were paid what was owed to us. I think that this was a case of you expecting everything for nothing and on that basis, Furzeleigh Mill is not the hotel for you. Please try Wetherspoons

How hospitality should be
If you are looking for a cosy little place with delicious food and excellent service then this would be the perfect choice. Lovely room with great attention to detail. Comfortable bed, fluffy bath robes, complimentary toiletries and well stocked tea and coffee tray. The food is absolutely superb. The most outstanding aspect of this establishment by far, is the wonderful service that Tessa and her team provide. Very friendly but extremely professional. They are a credit to the hospitality industry. Such a delightful stay.

An Outstanding Stay from Start to Finish
We booked Furzeleigh Mill for a one night stay on our way down to Cornwall but wish we’d have stayed longer as our stay surpassed all expectations! The warmth and hospitality from the owners and staff was outstanding from the second we arrived until the time we left the next morning. Every little detail at Furzeleigh Mill has been well thought out - our room was comfortable, stylish and well equipped, and breakfast was delicious and fantastic quality with lots of variety. We especially enjoyed our evening of cosy drinks by the fireplace in the lobby and the fantastic gin selection at the bar! We can’t wait to stay here again.

Lovely find! So convenient as just off the A38 at Buckfastleigh turn-off so handy for any travel around South Hams. Decor is lovely in rooms and in public areas. Breakfast is included which is a huge bonus! Staff were all very lovely, welcoming and obliging. Even had a lovely bath robe to use, and lovely toiletries. Food in restaurant was delicious, small menu but understandable in current covid times. My only reason for not all excellent was the shower is a bit weak and did keep changing temperature a bit - though not enough to burn or freeze, just annoying. I would also recommend that maybe breakfast could start a bit earlier on weekdays, maybe 7.30, as most people may be there on business and need to get away? Though they did allow early breakfasts to happen anyway but it may put other business people off if they saw the breakfast times?

Room was a lot smaller than we expected. Shower can only be described as having very thin water, the head had only tiny holes for the water making it very difficult to get wet and then rinse off.

This was our best stay in a 5-location tour of the south-west. Furzeleigh Mill has a proper restaurant with a very enjoyable cuisine. I would stay there again, next time I am in Devon.

Ideal base for exploring South Devon or Dartmoor
This was my first stay at Furzeleigh and it provided a good value for money 3 night stay. A little old fashioned or traditionally quaint depending on your point of view it benefited from free wi-fi which was a surprise as it was not advertised. Did not get to try the evening meal but did hear others saying the food was good.Would have liked to have tried a cider but got the impression bar was more for those dining than staying. Clientele was mixed although mainly elderly but some French family visitors showed accommodation had wide appeal.
