Hot Tub Cottage | Historic Woolpit Village | Sleeps 5 | Fire Pit & Log Burner

Church View Cottage is a historic Suffolk retreat in the heart of Woolpit — one of Suffolk's most picturesque and unspoiled villages. Original beamed ceilings, exposed stone, and a wood-burning fire give the cottage genuine character that no amount of interior design can manufacture. This is a place that has been lived in, loved, and looked after.
It sleeps five across two bedrooms, with superking zip-and-link beds throughout — 6ft wide, hotel-quality, and easily configured as singles when your group needs flexibility. Whether you're coming as a couple, a family, or a group of friends, the cottage adapts to you.
Outside, an enclosed private garden with a hot tub, fire pit, and BBQ makes this a year-round destination. Summer evenings around the fire pit. Winter nights in the steaming hot tub with a glass of something good. The garden is yours alone — no shared spaces, no neighbours overlooking you.
Wake to church bells and views of the medieval church from your window. Walk to the village pub, tearoom, and bakery. Reach Bury St Edmunds — cathedral city, market town, outstanding restaurants — in ten minutes.
Church View Cottage isn't a stopover. It's the whole point of the trip.

The Living Room
The heart of the cottage. Original beams run the length of the ceiling, and the wood-burning fire dominates the room — properly warming, properly atmospheric. This is where evenings happen: wine open, fire lit, nowhere to be.
Seating is generous and comfortable, arranged for conversation rather than just screen-watching. A smart TV is available when you want it, with fast WiFi throughout the property. But honestly? The fire tends to win.
The living room flows naturally into the kitchen and dining area, keeping the sociable, open feel that makes group stays work. Nobody is stuck in the kitchen while everyone else is in the lounge.

The Kitchen & Dining
A fully equipped kitchen built for proper cooking — not just reheating. Everything you need is here: full oven and hob, fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher, and a quality espresso machine for the mornings when you need it most.
The dining area seats the full group comfortably. Long, unhurried meals are very much the point here — whether that's a slow Sunday breakfast with pastries from the village bakery or a proper dinner after a day out in Suffolk.
Everything is stocked and ready. You arrive, you cook, you eat well.

The Bedrooms
Bedroom One
The principal bedroom, dressed for comfort and calm. A superking zip-and-link bed — 6ft wide, split to two singles if needed — with quality linen, ample storage, and natural light. Views that remind you where you are.
Bedroom Two
The second bedroom features another superking zip-and-link bed, again easily separated into twin singles. This room also has an additional single trundle bed, making it the flexible heart of the sleeping configuration for groups of five. Pull it out when you need it; tuck it away when you don't.
Both bedrooms are finished to a high standard with quality mattresses, hotel-grade linen, and blackout options for those mornings when you actually want to sleep in.

The Bathrooms
The cottage has one and a half bathrooms — a well-appointed main bathroom and a separate WC — serving five guests comfortably. Clean, well-stocked, and properly maintained.

The Garden
The outdoor space is where Church View Cottage genuinely earns its place as a year-round destination.
The enclosed private garden gives you complete seclusion — no overlooking neighbours, no shared access, just your group and the Suffolk sky. It has been thoughtfully laid out for evening use as much as daytime:
Hot Tub — a private hot tub, maintained to the highest hygiene standards before every stay. There is something specific about soaking in a hot tub on a cold Suffolk night, stars overhead, that makes the rest of the world feel very far away. Champagne optional but recommended.
Fire Pit — gather around the fire pit for long evenings outside. Bring marshmallows. Bring wine. Bring the people you actually want to spend time with.
BBQ — a proper BBQ for those who take outdoor cooking seriously. Summer stays at Church View have a rhythm to them: market in Bury St Edmunds in the morning, back to the cottage, fire up the BBQ, eat outside.
Outdoor Seating — comfortable outdoor furniture for the whole group, string lights overhead, the medieval church visible above the garden wall. It's a genuinely beautiful setting.
The garden is south-facing and catches the afternoon and evening sun — important in Suffolk, where the light has a particular quality that painters and photographers have been chasing for centuries.

The Village
Woolpit is one of those Suffolk villages that hasn't been discovered and ruined. It's genuinely historic — medieval church, timber-framed houses, a village green — and genuinely alive, with a pub, tearoom, and bakery that serve the community rather than just tourists.
The church of St Mary the Virgin, directly visible from the cottage, is one of the finest perpendicular Gothic churches in Suffolk. The village has been here since before the Domesday Book. Standing in the garden on a quiet morning, that sense of continuity is palpable.
For those who want to explore further:
Bury St Edmunds — 10 minutes. Cathedral, Abbey Gardens, a renowned market, and some of the best independent restaurants in the region. A proper day out or an easy evening dinner.
Lavenham — 20 minutes. Arguably the best-preserved medieval village in England. Worth at least an afternoon.
Aldeburgh & the Suffolk Coast — 45 minutes. Aldeburgh is one of the great English seaside towns: fish and chips on the beach, the Snape Maltings concert hall, shingle beaches stretching to the horizon.
Cambridge — 40 minutes. For those who want a city fix without the London commute.
Newmarket — 20 minutes. The home of British horse racing, with the National Stud and Racing Museum for those who want something different.
Suffolk rewards slow travel. The best way to see it is without a fixed plan — drive the back roads, stop at farm shops, find a pub you've never heard of. Church View Cottage is a natural base for exactly that kind of trip.

Smart Home & Connectivity
The cottage is equipped throughout with smart home technology designed to make your stay seamless rather than complicated:

Fast WiFi throughout the property — strong enough for remote working if needed, reliable enough that it just works
Smart TV in the living room with streaming apps
Espresso machine — proper coffee, not instant
