In the heart of the castle and sculpture park, a contemporary building houses the Museum of Fine Arts, which houses one of the most important collections of French European paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries. You can admire works from France, Italy, Holland or Frandres.
Caen offers many other gems, such as the mansion of Escoville, superb Renaissance house built in the 16th century by a wealthy lord, and which now houses the Tourist Office. You can also admire the church of Saint-Pierre and its many sculptures, the Jardin des plantes which hosts a number of rare specimens in the heart of the city, or the "Vaugueux" district where Edith Piaf’s family lived. You should also take the time to stroll through the medieval streets or on the pretty marina that embellishes the city center.
