Hotel was empty, almost abandoned, restaurant was closed, bar was closed, no reception, I received the room key through a security person who was guarding the door of the property, the television did not serve internet or service of any kind. a very ugly place I would say.

Room was spacious and near the water. Lack of hospitality. Food was very expensive. Restaurants are closed at 6 in the evening leaving us with no other option. Deal included breakfast but no option for vegetarian. No buffet as mentioned in the Expedia site

stay elswhere for cheaper than this rundown resort
Run down property without proper management. The restaurant on the hill eith the view did not work. They wanted us to pay extra for a kayak rental ($5 for 30mins!!!) while all the surrounding properties charge a daily beach access that covers a lot of things including kayaks for like $6-7.The stuff at the reception did not know or were not helpfull with the information about the region. They advertise diving in the lake on their web site but when we asked the guy at the reception it was like news to him that there is diving in the lake and he was not helpful. Their map shows some hiking trails but whwn we asked them for more information again they just said that there is no trail. The included breakfast quality was below average. So our last day we spent at the Paradiso hostel as they had sups for rent and good food and drinks.

Hello dear Erykah, We are sorry to hear about your experience. Just to give you some feed back. It is tru that the restaurant on the hill is not working but we have 2 other restaurant working. We have to charge kayaks, the other place dont because They charge for entrance, we dont charge for entrace so it is the same. We have trail as shown in the map but in this season of the year we recomend not to go to our guest, so this was for your safety.

The hotel was almost empty, it's quite run down. Dogs roaming around. Cats too. Fleas in the room. Terrible communication. Told breakfast was in a restaurant that's closed. Other restaurants close at 6 pm. Didn't find out from staff until too late. A couple of staff were good. Security and Pizza restaurant.

Great getaway!
This was a great place for my wife and I to start our vacation. We had a standard apartment, which allowed us to have groceries of our own, and cook when we wanted to. Otherwise, the included breakfast, and other meals and available drinks were great. The pool, lake, and other amenities gave us many options for things to do. The hammock and rocking chairs on our private balcony, were perfect when we wanted to do nothing. We took a short taxi ride to Granada one day, which we really enjoyed. Can't wait for us to go back, (with or without the kids).

We were told when we booked that it had a kitchen and a yv. When we got there it not only didn’t have those it also did not have a blanket. We also never got our room cleaned while we were there and they do not supply water even though you can’t brush your teeth with the water there. Never are supper there because the restaurant closed at six and the pizza restaurant never opened while we were there’s

A great location on the edge of the lake and easy travelling distance to Managua, Masaya and Granada. Rooms with lake views are fantastic. 3 food options in the resort all good quality if quite basic. A great value holiday hotel. Not suitable for those with limited walking ability as it is set on a steep cobbled path

They first tried to give me a room that was a downgrade from what I purchased. Then they had construction starting right next to my room at 6:30 am.

Beautiful jungle resort
Had a great stay but wished there were more dining options in the area. The restaurants are expensive and there are not many other options close to the resort. But this place has Great service and excellent location.

My partner & I stay at this resort was perfect. It is quite an experience and a different one as well. It has the best view out of all hotels, and the convenience of the Laguna Apoyo deck right on their property. The ride to your room is quite an experience as well, as the rooms are on the mountain and the hotel truck has to take you to your designated room. The front desk attendant was extremely nice, he helped us out with everything! Food on their restaurants was also great. No complaints about this hotel!

The Wi-Fi absolutely not existing in the room (NO signal at all), we informed the reception, they never provided a solution. The rooms were separate (we have two kids) and in order to have connected we had to pay additional 20USD per day to use the leaving room-kitchen (that connected the two rooms) also id we didn't need it/use it. The Hotel was not full, we asked to have another room (with better wi fi and rooms connected or at least the beds in one room, as we booked) but nothing happened. The structure itself is very nice, but bad managed and bad serviced

Then, we do have two bedroom villas where rooms are connected by the living area and a fully equipped kitchen; that´s why the cost is a little higher. For the price of the rooms, the service at the reception leaves something to be desired. I did some exploring of the area and would have canceled my reservation to stay at any of the other establishments if I could do so without a penalty fee. Other places were friendly and very well kept and 20-30% less per night. The breakfast at the resort was delicious though.

I loved this place a lot. I loved the view. I liked how there was a smaller pool at the top of the hotel. The pool however by the lag una was awesome. It was big and cleaned. The room was spacious and cleaned and nicely kept.

Natural wonder
The staff was so friendly. This is a hotel with no conventional hotel rooms but beautiful spacious houses decorated like a real cozy Nicaraguan family home among the forest with air conditioning, tv's, kitchen, full dinning room, and transportation from the lagoon to the rooms.

Relaxing Cottage on Laguna de Apoyo
The resort was beautiful. We dined at both restaurants and were pleased with the selection and quality. Both pools were clean and had beautiful views of the lagoon. Each house is decorated differently and ours (106) was very clean and comfortable. However, we had difficulty getting the hot water to work properly. The water came out with an orange/red tinge and you got electrocuted when you touched the shower head. The staff is super helpful and nice. I would definitely stay again.

Last night in the jungle
We booked last minute the day before our stay.. Received an amazing price as it was low season.. It was our last night before our flight the next day. We were able to get a late check out (8pm) for a very fare price. Also the lovely front desk manager Maria arranged a taxi for us to head to the market and get to the airport the next night. Even thought it was low season everything was great.. And the highlight of our trip was hearing and seeing all the howler monkeys. The only 2 things we felt could have begun different was wifi in the rooms and not just common areas.. And menus and activities in local currency not US..

Peaceful and delightful
We just returned from an amazing family vacation in Nicaragua. We stayed for 6 nights at Apoyo Resort. Our villa was semi open air with air-conditioned bedrooms, nice big showers, kitchen, front porch seating area, large living area and second level covered balcony with seating. The first day we were there we saw Howler Monkeys. The view of the Laguna was amazing. There is a lower level swimming pool close to the lake and an upper level pool at the top of the resort that overlooks the lake. Plenty of seating, bars and restaurants. The Laguna is warm and clean with kayaks for rent, a large jumping/lounging platform and a buoyed platform further out. The lake is beautiful and the perfect temperature for hours of water fun. The breakfast was hearty and delicious (even though we booked with Expedia and clearly stated there were 6 of us only 4 breakfasts per day were actually included, it cost $10 additional per person per day). The bedrooms stayed nice and cool. There was plenty of drinking water in the cooler. The showers had decent water pressure and the beds were comfortable. The customer service was very good for us. The reception was friendly, they booked our tours and transportation, when I asked for additional water they brought the water and also replaced towels and did a cleaning. Transport around the resort was regular and friendly. We always felt very safe and welcome. Most people working spoke English. There are a couple of important things to be aware of

Website through Expedia said Pets accepted. So we brought our 2 yorkies. The guard on the way up to our hotel said "No dogs" In Spanish. Very rude and unpleasant as soon as we got on the tram to go up. He made the tram guy drive us back to the front desk. Where, the nice gentleman said it's okay. Just don't take them to any restaurants or beach. We were not going to take them there anyway, and your hotel said "Pet Friendly" We would have not gone there if it had not been Pet friendly. There are plenty of places to go that are Pet Friendly. So, we didn't even want to walk them around the area due to him making us feel uncomfortable and that we and they were a nuisance. Will not go here again. Very unwelcoming and seemingly wanted to argue about our puppies.

Very pretty area but the people not so welcoming.
Very nice property and the staff was competent and accommodating, but the people of the area including the staff are not super-friendly. Nothing specific happened, but the vibe there is just not overly friendly, a little bit phony. Just my experience.

Overpriced and overpromised, but great nature.
I am going to separate my comments into the good, the bad and the ugly (insert soundtrack here). For the good, see other reviews about the nature and remoteness of the place. Now for the bad. see other reviews about breakast trip and supplies. It is a long, expensive ride from Managua or the airport so do not let the short distance in kilometers to fool you. Expect to take 60-90 minutes to arrive and expect to pay 50 to 80 one-way. And finally, the ugly: it is by no stretch of the imagination a spa. There are no amenties the average Westerner (or Asian, for that matter) would expect. There is a guy who will give you a massage in your room if you feel sufficiently brave and desperate to request it. It is absurdly overpriced, given that there are no amenities whatsover. There is precious little cell service; when I asked they told me there was none, but I did find a signal at the breakfast place at the top of the mountain if I stood halfway between the breakfast nook and their small pool, and also across the street at the restaurant in certain spots. The folks at the restaurant have a hotspot and if you speak Spanish are friendly and will connect you to it. You have to plan out your activities yourself.

Loved our stay was very beautiful there. Watch your pricing was cheaper (a lot) to book directly at hotel. The lake was absolutely gorgeous with a temp of 27cel. Loved the stay and all the Monkeys and our friend (the dog).

Peaceful setting but close enough to enjoy Granada
The staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating. However, I have to say we found this to be true throughout Nicaragua. The setting was fantastic. The manager keeps several parrots and a lot of the oro pendula birds nest near the restaurant at the top of the hill. Howler monkeys can be heard though we did not actually see them. There's no TV and no phone in the rooms but guests are given a cell phone to communicate with the front desk, etc. Because the resort is on steep terrain, transport to the restaurants and pools is available upon demand. If you're looking for nature and peace and quiet, this is the place. If you want to break up the quiet with some nightlife, transport is available to Granada, only 25 minutes away. The only negative thing I could say is that Expedia had the wrong phone number for the resort so when we attempted to call ahead for information and confirmation, we were unable to do so.

Great experience, really enjoyed the area and wish we could have stayed longer. It was a bit of an inconvenience that we did not have internet and the power went out, but could be a problem out of the hotel's control. Overall, a great hotel. The rooms themselves do not have views of Laguna Apoyo, just the restaurant fyi.

Nice quite hotel.
Nice hotel with many improvements on the way....staff were very accommodating..This hotel is in a old volcano,right at waterfront...water temperature 80f..Very quite and relaxing....The onsite restaurant is the only one around...Good food and service....entre ran about $13.00 to $15.00 us... Electricity has outages and WIFI is sketchy....no television stations available....Part of the improvement projects. You will be very safe and relaxed at this hotel.. Tours from front desk are very accommodating....There English is excellent...Packages are available or talk with them and build one together.. Suggest you get hotel's van, to pick you up from Managua airport.

Jungle relaxing
We swam in the volcano crater, relaxed in the pool, hiked through the grounds as the howlers did their most impressive howls, and enjoyed friendly service from an attentive staff. A fabulous experience.

The Villas at Apoyo
Our family spent 7 days at this resort and enjoyed ourselves. We took day trips to Granada, Masaya, the Masaya Volcano, San Juan del Sur, Mombacho Volcano and also relaxed on the laguna. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and made sure we were happy and comfortable. Our cottage was big and we enjoyed the use of the kitchen.

Unique experience to last a lifetime
It is nestled in a very natural forest setting with great views of the Apoyo lake. We had howler monkeys all day long just outside of our unit/bungalow. Forest wildlife is all around you to enjoy. It's easy enough to find your way down to the lake for a swim; swimming in a volcano crater is quite a big thrill. The unit we had was really nice and spacious but we could tell it had not been rented in a while. The water lines for one of the showers really did not work very well, if at all. The windows and doors were not well sealed so there were lots of little forest bugs inside (some is expected considering the location). There was essentially no TV option but you can use the game room unit containing a pool table, darts, etc. A really nice touch was the fact they included a large filtered water cooler in the unit. The staff was really great. Because the units are nestled into a heavily graded hillside, walking up and down to your unit was not realistic if the unit was closer to the top of the hill; the staff was accommodating in picking up and dropping off whenever we required it. The restaurant had a basic but balanced menu and the food was very good. The breakfast options, which was included, were enough to satisfy the different tastes of the family. The restaurant staff was very professional and overall service was very fast. If not for a few of the small issues with the unit, I would have easily rated the accommodation a five-star.
