"It is a lovely, cozy and quiet cabin however it could have used more housekeeping. I had to clean up inside when we arrived, and the hot tub needed a little wiping down as well. Also could have used more paper products like toilet paper, paper towels and facial tissue. There were also no batteries for the tv remote, extra light bulbs, shower soap, flashlight, and first aid kit. I understand this is supposed to be rustic, but it was lacking some basic amenities. Lastly, we had a very difficult time locating the cabin due to poor internet access in the area, and there was no signage down out front on the main road. We drove past it several times before we could discern that it was our rental."
"Loved this place! It's close to so many hiking trails and state parks. The host was very friendly and responsive when we had questions. The property is beautiful and very clean both inside and out. We wish we could have stayed longer! The beds were amazing, they are so comfortable, it's the best sleep we have gotten in a long time. The property seems to stretch forever and the horses are so friendly! We were able to visit and pet them and we gave them apples and carrots. The trip was definitely worth it!"
"We loved our stay here! Our 2 young kids (7y & 2y) loved the goats (super cute, and truly the friendliest and gentlest goats we have come across), small swingset, creek, and pond for fishing! There were also lots of toys, books, games, etc. to keep them entertained indoors. We loved it for the animals, outdoor area, and how easy it was to keep the kids entertained! We highly recommend, and would consider returning in the future!"
"Our family really loved the house and property. It was an excellent basecamp for surrounding hiking excursions. The property itself with the open floor plan, prairie trail, pond and fire pit really let us melt away hours in the evening as our legs recovered from hiking. The house a great feeling of privacy and safety so the kids could run around outside and quiet prairie walks could recharge the mind. The house itself had modern amenities, and was easy to manage. Cellular service isnt great in the region so we made sure to plan our travel routes ahead of time using the wifi in the house and download offline as there are lots of roads with twists and turns. Not having cell service was actually something we embraced as a freeing constraint... unplugged from the wider world as we stepped outside of the house Internet. We stopped in Harrisburg to get groceries on the way in as there are no well stocked closer options I obvious. The garden of the gods outpost has several small things if you forgot something basic. Really appreciated all the thoughtful small things, local soaps in bathroom, bags set, chairs outside, lots of towels, check in texts...We would love to come back some day. Everyone loved it."
Sassafras Ridge Log Cabin by Garden of the Gods in the Shawnee National Forest
10/10 Excellent
"Very sweet place, well thought out and tended to. We enjoyed our stay a lot. The cabin is said to house 6 to 8 but honestly you'd be comfortable with a max of 4 to 5. Great opportunities for fun right on the property - fire pit, hammock, porch swing and a little catch and release pond. General store a few miles away."
Near Garden of the Gods: Home w/ Fire Pit, Hot Tub
10/10 Excellent
"We were two families renting and appreciated the amount of bedrooms offered and amount of beds. We found everything we needed in the kitchen while cooking. Cleaning up after meals was easy with the dishwasher available. The fire pit was great for campfire s'mores with plenty of firewood available. We would have liked a bigger grill outside, but made do without one. The hot tub was a great way to end the night. The host left simple instructions. Check out was super easy. The entire property is well maintained and clean."
