Once Upon a Tide has magnificent sea views

"Beautiful views. Convenient to town. Three charming, separate sitting rooms, so lots of space for a larger group. Clean. Amenities….ok.A tip for Americans considering this house — the listing says that 2 of the bedrooms have king beds, but they are definitely not U.S. king-sized beds (probably because it’s IRELAND, not the U.S.!). A king bed in Ireland is slightly larger than a U.S. double bed, but not as large as a U.S. queen. So, an Irish King is not even as large as a U.S. Queen. One bedroom has two twin beds, and the four other rooms each had essentially one U.S. sized double bed (the Irish King is very slightly larger than the Irish double, and the Irish double is about the same as the U.S. double). All the hotels that we've stayed in while visiting Ireland which listed “king beds,” had U.S. sized king beds, or larger, so the bed size at the house was disappointing. But now we know to ask specific measurement sizes next time. The bed size probably doesn’t matter to a lot of folks, but for those who want the larger beds, I hope this is useful information. Nice house overall."

"Clifden is a lovely town and this property is located perfectly to enjoy everything this town has to offer. We were pleasantly surprised that there was a small theater close to the location and we were able to attend a performance. Many excellent restaurants, friendly pubs and shops located in a short walking distance. We loved Clifden and would return to this property again."

"Stayed here for a week this June. House was clean and check in was a breeze. Both bathrooms upstairs are en-suite with a half bath on the main level. There is a drying press in the upstairs hallway closet (cedar shelving next to the hot water heater). Horses will come up to the fence line everyday at the same time to beg for treats. We caved and sliced up some apples for them. In addition, we did run across some escape artist sheep on the road leading up to the driveway. They will move. This house pretty much looks like a postcard of an Irish cottage. Would stay here again. The host is Mary responds quickly to any questions."

"Whilst the house is at an amazing location, with beautiful scenery and lots to do, the property itself needs some updating. There was mould on the ceiling above the shower in one of the bedrooms. The ceiling in the kitchen was marked where it looked like there had been a leak. There were no instructions left for any appliances or any welcome pack explaining how things work etc. Main bathroom marks on the wall where it looked like a towel rail had been. For 7 adults there was insufficient seating (2 bean bags don't count) and we moved the small settee from the hallway into the living room so we could all sit together. it was the little things really - only 3 dishwasher tablets left, the back of the remote control for the TV was loose and kept falling off (battery compartment). Overall the property was good, but it really does need some attention."
