Close to airport but in a very sketchy neighborhood. The woman at the desk was wonderful! There are no restaurants around but you can order pizza. Hotel has beer and soda to buy. Was ok but way overpriced.
There was no hot water, so we shivered each time we showered. They charge a half days rate extra for heat. Toilet leaked and seat was broken. Would not recommend
Rekommenderas starkt, bra pris dessutom
This hotel is located in a less than desirable location. It is not close to the airport or the Plaza de Armas. It was locked when I arrived leaving me standing alone with my luggage on a street that felt unsafe. When I finally checked in it seemed nice enough, but there is no sound proofing at all in the hotel, there is also a large transom window over the door with no curtain. It was my plan to take a quick nap before heading out for the New Years celebration in the Plaza, but my nap really never happened as the window let in all the light from the hallway. When I did check out there was no one available and the main door was locked I had to find a back way out after leaving my keys on the counter. My major issue stems from the fact that the only place I used my credit card in this neighborhood was at this hotel, and today my bank account was practically emptied by someone in this neighborhood. My bank believes that the hotel stole my card info and used this to make fraudulent ATM withdrawals that I now have to dispute. DO NOT STAY HERE.

Not going there again sadly
I had high hopes after reading so many reviews about this place. Let's start with the fact that the taxi cab couldn't find the place.... None of the cab drivers I asked to take me here knew where it was!! The place was ALWAYS closed, like bolted and chained no one answering door when I got there, even in middle of the day!!!. The first night I got there I thought the place had been SHUT DOWN because it was seemingly boarded up with chained iron gate in front of doors. Definitely not a welcoming feeling. The staff was nice but never present. When I had to leave to go to airport I called out for someone to come to collect key etc, no one came so I finally just left key on desk and unlocked door to let myself out. I wasn't going to miss my plane looking for someone to unlock front door for me!!! My first night there, the wifi worked in the room. the 2d night, nothing. I told the young daughters (family lives on first floor there and use the "lobby" as TV living room watching loud tv til late at night, which with thin walls kinda sucks). They said they were having wifi issues and couldn't do anything. Breakfast was ok, basic. It's also VERY far from main plaza, which is inconvenient mostly because it's $2 every time you go there, and $2 when you go back (which adds up and eats up at your day, especially since you have to hunt down a cab on a non high traffic street in a not so great neighborhood). No outlets in room! had to plug ph in 1 outlet in bathroom.
This hotel is terrible. The fact that Trip advisor endorses the hotel gives me pause to EVER use trip advisor again. They list themselves as .3 miles from the airport and also that a shuttle bus is available. The hotel is about two mile from the airport and we had a fight about the shuttle bus even though I showed it to them in the list of amenities.
They also had construction starting at 0800.
I will follow this up with a review. The place is NOT good and the fact that you endorse them is even worse. I would like to hear from you as to how you verify their advertising claims because it appears there was NO due diligence in this case.
Thank you and again I will not use trip advisor again until this is resolved. Cheers, M
Our stay at Hotel Sonnenthal was pleasant enough. It was a very undesirable neighborhood....
The reason I chose this location was because they stated they were close to the airport and offered 24 hour shuttle service. We had a 5:30am flight the next morning. Upon check in I learned there was no shuttle and we were 10-15 minutes away from the airport. We couldn't cancel and get our money back since it was mid evening already. Frustrated and disappointed.

great staff, helpful and doing more than requested. Basic room and breakfast. Distant from city center but it's only 5 sol of taxi
This was a very unpleasant experience. The hotel is located quite far from city center, in a very downscale neighborhood. We were given a room at the first (ground) floor close to hotel entrance, with additional bed squeezed in a small room - we had to get over this additional bed to get to the closet. There is no soundproofing in the hotel and we had to listen to all phone calls and doorbells, whenever that happened, sometimes late at night. One of the ladies managing this hostel kept her baby girl with her in the lobby, and we had to listen to her cries late at night or early in the morning. All windows in the room were tightly locked, and the air got stale very quickly. We had to cut our visit short one night and move to a better hotel, even though we could not cancel this night and lost the cost.
