See local live musicians or witness majestic horses galloping at full speed through Texas’ premier horse country just outside this north Texan city.

Denton has a lively music scene, an exciting downtown precinct and acres of sprawling horse country. Visit this northern Texan city for an ideal getaway from the major commercial hubs of the region. Named after a Texan militia captain, the city was incorporated during the 1860s and has grown rapidly ever since.

Denton is a well-connected and progressive city of just over 113,000 residents. The development of the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport during the 1970s brought an influx of residents and tourists to the region, significantly helping in the city’s expansion.

Get to know the streets of Denton’s lively downtown precinct. Explore the fashionable retail outlets, casual al fresco dining options and traditional Texan streetscapes. The city centre is the hub of activity in Denton. Look for the pride of the city, the Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square, looming over the area. Admire its historic architecture as you enjoy your lunch nearby.

Music runs through the veins of Denton. On any night of the week, listen to original sounds and much-loved classics emanating from bars, theatres and clubs throughout the city. Stop by the Murchison Performing Arts Centre for live opera or drop into a downtown bar for country, blues or Southern rock ’n’ roll.

Venture outside the city centre where Texas’ rural legacy springs forth. Spend an exciting family day out exploring the North Texas horse country by signing up for a guided tour. See thoroughbred horses and enormous ranches as you drive through some of Texas’ most photogenic countryside.

The Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport serves Denton, just 27 miles (43 kilometres) away. The city has an efficient mass transit system you can reach most attractions by bus. Accommodation is plentiful in the city centre but if you’re looking for a more rural escape, find a place to stay in the horse country that surrounds the city.
