Wonderful rooms but overpriced food

The hotel is first class, staff very friendly, my only criticism was breakfast which was hugely over priced for what you got, it’s ok the price if the portions reflected it, but it was like eating at primary school again but paying top dollar for it

Friendly pub with character

A really gorgeous hotel and pub with lots of character. It was calm, cosy and surprisingly quiet. Food was amazing! Recommend

The room was fantastic, but a shame that there was no parking available considering the price - on one night we saw a man sleeping in his van in the car park. It would be good to have a system that prioritizes hotel guests for spaces over pub patrons like these.

Lovely English country hotel. Excellent restaurant and lobby area. No air conditioning, so the rooms in mid-summer are very hot; fans provided but inadequate.

A beautiful building. Close to Box Hill for Stepping Stones Walk which is what we wanted. Also on bus route. Lovely ambience. Beautiful

Avoid room 24

In general this was a nice establishment to stay. However room 24 is right above the vehicle entrance to this old coaching inn which has a cobbled surface. At 5.15 we were awoke by the sound of the bin men moving wheelie bins in and out of the hotel as the room is immediately above the entrance. When they eventually stopped the general traffic kept us awake. Apart from that one side of the double bed is against the wall making going to the loo in the middle of the night a bit of an issue for someone. The food was good and at reasonable prices.

Fantastic

Great place to stay. Check in was quick,efficient and friendly. The room was spacious ,spotless and very comfortable.Had lunch in the courtyard outside which was lovely and dinner in the restaurant in the evening ,also delicious. Apparently Raymond Blanc keeps a close eye on things in the kitchen! Found all the staff very efficient and friendly.

The white horse was spectacular! The rooms were of such a high quality, with amazing touches like a personal note & treats! We had lunch at the pub which was just delicious. I will be coming back and recommending to everyone! K & m x

Hotel with good ambience and would recommend

I expected to notice a huge difference in that the hotel is now under new ownership and yes, there were differences. Huge bonus is that residents are not now charged to park (something that irritated before). Checking in is now better organised. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and efficient in most quarters. As before rooms and beds are very comfortable and the hotel has a good ambience. The main bonus for us is location. Our son lives in the High Street so it is an ideal place for us to stay when visiting,especially at Christmas when there were several of us. On the downside, service at breakfast is sometimes slow and a bit disorganised. Always more efficient on Christmas Day because they need to set up for lunch but often goes downhill a bit thereafter. It also needs better organisation at other times of the year. There is not enough draw space in the bedrooms. We take out the spare linen in the top of the wardrobes and use that space so not a problem for a few nights stay. The huge table lamps on the small bedside tables take up too much room. A small criticism but something which might be taken on board. Disappointingly, a minature aftershave spray, which must have got knocked on the floor, was binned. Should have been put back on the shelf. However, all in all a good place to stay. Suits us very well and we would recommend it.

I am writing to share feedback from our recent stay at the White Horse, Dorking. While there were aspects we enjoyed, certain elements of our experience did not meet our expectations. To begin on a positive note, we were truly impressed by the room itself. It was beautifully designed, comfortable, and added a sense of luxury to our stay. However, we encountered some disappointments with the dining services. The breakfast service was terribly slow; we waited a significant amount of time to be acknowledged to be seated then a further 15 minutes before our order was taken. It took 25 minutes to be served our drinks, which was just juice, and our meal was finally served 45 minutes later. When breakfast was served, one of the items was wrong but the response was that it would take another 20 minutes to replace which made us feel like an inconvenience to them. There was no communication from staff that service would take so long and overall it impacted our morning plans. Additionally, during dinner service the evening before, the one menu item my wife and I were both looking forward to was unavailable, however we weren’t told this until we tried to order. When ordering dessert we were then declined one of our choices again due to lack of availability. We believe these are areas for potential improvement, and I wanted to share this in hopes of enhancing the experience for future guests.

This gem is on Main Street. Had so much character. A fabulous Pub with restaurant attached. The property was spacious and unique. The room was decorated so lovely and such personal touches and quite spacious. Staff was wonderful.
