There isn’t too much wrong with the Kings Manor but it isn’t easy to love this place, which has a feel of the 1970s about it.
The location is pretty good if you want somewhere that is easy to access by car. It has free parking and is on a bus route.
The greeting in reception was friendly and helpful and the directions to my room were clear. The building has been extended over the years and doesn’t have any kind of atmosphere.
The door to the room was quite scuffed and scruffy. It was one of those old-fashioned hollow ones with a cheap veneer surface. Definitely not sound proof!
The room was compact but had everything I needed, including a very nice, modern shower room. The room was clean and the bed was OK, without being luxurious.
On checking in, I was required to reserve a table for breakfast. A sign on the Reception desk rather sternly warns guests that, if they are late for their reserved slot, it is unlikely that staff will be able to accommodate them later. That being the case, it seems a pity that they can’t get the dining room open at the advertised time! The breakfast was fine although I never managed to find the advertised porridge.
Check out was smooth, speedy and friendly.
All in all, the hotel is OK as a stop-off but it feels characterless and stuck in a previous decade. The building extension hasn’t done anything to generate any feeling of warmth or cosiness, although the staff certainly do their best to mitigate this.
