• A plane trip can be a great experience if you pack the right gear. First things first, you'll need basic toiletry items, such as deodorant and a toothbrush, a clean set of clothes and a good book. • Caused by sustained periods of inactivity, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clotting condition that can affect some passengers during long-haul flights. Lower your risks by drinking water, keeping your legs moving and wearing compression socks or tights.

• Security personnel first need to verify that you have a valid ID and travel documents before you're allowed to proceed any further. Have them ready for inspection.
• Your jacket, belt, keys and other contents of your pockets, like your earphones, will be required to go through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process easier by removing them before your turn arrives.
• All your electronic devices, including your phone and laptop, must also be separately scanned.
• Remove all gels and liquids from your carry-on luggage. They often need to be sent through the X-ray machine separately. Each item should be in a container no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and everything must fit in a quart-size (one litre), clear zip-close bag.
• Lightweight sneakers are a sensible footwear choice as you're less likely to be required to remove them when passing through security. Boots and other heavy-style shoes are usually subjected to additional screening.
• Avoid taking prohibited items in your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp objects like a pocket knife or tools, pack them in your checked baggage. They won't be allowed on board.
