Our perfect retreat

First time at Refugio not disappointed. Have been many times to Hacienda. We love the tranquility and clear night skies here. The pool is cool and refreshing, the staff are so friendly and helpful. Love the fresh local food, almonds, figs and lemons to name but a few. I'm sure we'll be back!

Quirky historic farm house in a stunning setting - peaceful luxury!

We came to La Palma to enjoy some energetic hiking up beautiful hills, play in the sea on black sand beaches, and just to get away from it all - we succeeded on all counts! And the remote hillside location of this house means it gets gorgeous views of the stars at night, and the roaring log stove works incredibly well if it's a bit chilly at night. Overall - we loved it!

Fantastic Refugio!

I was fortunate at last minute for Tobias and Christian to find me accommodation whilst already being on the island. This was second visit to Hacienda. I stayed in the 2 bedroom farmhouse Refugio and it was delightful. The large clean and spacious kitchen was fantastic with its own log burner and stove, up a few steps I found 3 sofas another log burner and stove. The large bathroom with his and her sinks was ample in terms of space and quality and the 2 bedrooms were equally well proportioned, the main bedroom was simply enormous. The roof terrace was ideal for observing the stars through my telescope and binoculars and of course Christian and the team were on hand for anything I needed which was great so I will definitely come back again and stay here.

A peaceful and beautiful location from which to explore the north of the island

Beautifully maintained grounds and a wonderful property (we actually stayed in El Sitio). It was very peaceful and secluded surrounded by mountain sides of pine forests. We loved using the pool and watching the sunset from there. The night sky is completely free from light pollution. This, together with the altitude, provided fabulous night skies. Christian was so helpful and understanding when we missed our connecting flight and arrived near midnight and was attentive to anything we needed and questions, thank you Christian. Hacienda is very well located for the Roque de los Muchachos and to see the observatories - a fabulous day trip above the clouds which is thoroughly recommended. We would love to return to La Palma one day and if we did we would have no hesitation in returning to Hacienda La Palma.

Amazing holiday

Beautiful location, there are a couple of properties to stay in however each were very private and not overlooking each other. Most of the time we thought we were all alone on the side of a mountain above the clouds. The property was very clean and well equipped (everything we needed for a self catering holiday and even a Kettle), the grounds were well kept by Benjamin and Christian, very knowledgeable of the area and Benjamin even helped us with the telescope and pointed out Saturn, Mars and another Galaxy. We hiked during the day; there are some lovely walks from high crater edges to green forestry paths, and then relaxed by the pool in the afternoon; very comfortable furniture around the pool. The pool has a heating system (took the edge of a cold pool) very refreshing in the heat. We ate a couple of times in the nearby restaurant (not walkable) Briesta very reasonable price at 30 euros for two people (main meal, glass of wine and 2 beers), very friendly and I would recommend the spare ribs. We were recommended to hire a Fiat Panda 4x4 and we were glad we took the advise, driving around the island up and down the mountain side the Panda was small, very nippy and handled the corners well. We had an amazing holiday, we would recommend this property to everyone.

Beautiful, quiet house above the clouds

The Hacienda is high up in a pine forest and surrounded by an organic winery & depending on the season there’s fruit to pick. We were too early for the plums but we had the best strawberries I’ve eaten in years. Although this is listed as a 2 bedroom house only one has a door (the main bedroom); the other one only has a curtain. This didn’t work for us so we were given the small adjacent “annex”. The pool is lovely. We only saw our neighbours a couple of times as the 5? houses are pretty much hidden from each other. Lots of flowers and trees. Although some reviews said the restaurant was to far to walk we did it many times. Several restaurants we wanted to visit were closed for holidays but that wasn’t a problem as the kitchen is well equipped. There are marked trails all over Garafía including some a short walk from the house. We had the choice of 3 terraces & the lower one was perfect for watching the sea clouds roll in whist we ate dinner. It’s magical living above the clouds and stargazing with only sound of birds and the wind. Christian, Benjamin & Gundun are lovely and very helpful. This is a special place and even though it is a long way from Canada we hope to go back!

Stunning location, lovely views, amazing dark sky!

My family and I had a fantastic five night stay here in August, we stayed in El Refugio . I had come to La Palma for astronomy and the skies at the Hacienda were quite breathtaking. The altitude of the Hacienda meant that every night we were there it was clear - clouds were visible at lower altitudes. There was also a 10" Dobsonian telescope available which I was able to use for 2-3 nights. The facilities were excellent, well equipped and clean and we were welcomed by Joachim who took plenty of time to show us around. The Hacienda is indeed secluded and whilst getting there isn't too hard a reasonably powerful vehicle is recommended! We made heavy use of Cafe Briesta, about a half hour walk down the hill (just 5-10 minute drive). It seemed to be open all the time and was a convenient source of coffee... the children loved the pool which was never crowded as the total number of people in the area at any one time is quite low. For any astronomers thinking of going, do so. There are lights around the facilities that get turned off fairly soon after dark and the skies are incredible. The Roque de Los Muchachos was a 45-50 minute drive from the Hacienda but at 4500ft altitude you don't need to go any higher for crystal clear skies... the clouds seem to form, and stay, lower down. I would go back there in an instant if I could and stay there - the available internet connection meant that for all the seclusion, if you wanted, you could be in touch with the outside world. Außergewöhnlich schön

Die ganze Anlage ist von beeindruckender Schönheit. Die Vielfalt der Pflanzen, die natürliche und gleichzeitig wohlüberlegte Landschaftsarchitektur – es macht schon Freude, einfach nur auf der Hacienda von A nach B zu gehen, z. B. zum ebenfalls sehr schön angelegten Pool. Die Kinder haben jeden Tag Orangen geerntet und gepresst, dazu gab es Zitronen und Avocados und klarstes Wasser direkt aus der Quelle. Das Haus war stilvoll, authentisch und sauber, mit einer tollen Dachterrasse. Der Ausblick ist großartig. Unser Gastgeber hat sich toll um uns gekümmert und uns ein Teleskop zum Sternegucken geliehen. Wir sind rundum glücklich mit diesem außergewöhnlichen Urlaub in dieser außergewöhnlichen Unterkunft.

Ruhe und Erholung und den Sternen so nah.

Wir haben hier die Ruhe und Erholung gefunden die wir gesucht haben. Gebucht hatten wir dieses Mal das Refugio und das Mirrador. Der freundliche Empfang durch Christian oder Benjamin sorgten von Anfang an für eine entspannte Atmosphäre auf der Hacienda. Im Vorfeld hatten wir bei Melanie ein paar Massagen gebucht, die wir dann auf der Hacienda unter dem Weinlaub genossen haben. Wir freuen uns schon auf ein nächstes Mal das wir dann vielleicht in einem der drei anderen individuellen Häuser verbringen werden.

WUNDERSCHÖN

Wir haben uns sehr gefreut auf der Hacienda El Refugio unseren Urlaub verbringen zu dürfen. Umgeben von alten Weinstöcken, Mandelbäumen und Sukkulenten z. B. Aloe Vera, genießen wir die Ruhe und Entspannung hier in der frischen Bergluft. Ein blühender duftender Jasmin wächst vor unserem Eingang und berauscht uns. Die Ausstattung der Räume ist perfekt, uns fehlt es an Nichts. Wir relaxen vor dem Kaminfeuer und fühlen uns pudelwohl. Dazu verkosten wir den hauseigenen Rotwein. Ein Blick lohnt sich abends zum Sternenhimmel, traumhaft schön. Die Morgensonne begrüßt uns auf der Dachterrasse wo wir unter Palmen unseren ersten Kaffee schlürfen. Wir fühlen uns gut betreut vor und während unseren Aufenthaltes. Christian mit Hündin Isi und der Kater Don Pedro sind in der kurzen Zeit Freunde für uns geworden. Die Insel bietet viele Überraschungen, als Kontrastprogramm zu den Wanderrungen gehörte für uns auch ein Besuch des Faschings in Los Llanos und zum Karneval in Santa Cruz dazu. Am besten fährt man mit dem öffentlichen Bus empfiehlt uns Christian. Die schönste Puderschlacht der Welt wird sie bezeichnet und die Palmeros feiern wie verrückt und wir machten ungehemmt mit. Lebensfreude pur mit Salsa und kubanischen Rygthmen. Leider war die Zeit viel zu kurz in der genialen Unterkunft und der traumhaften Natur, aber der Himmel belohnte uns zum Abschied noch mit einem wunderschönen bunten Regenbogen auf dem Blick zum Meer. Wir sind uns sicher, wir kommen wieder!! LG Monika und Verena

Herrliche Ruhe

Herrliche Ruhe auf schön gestalteter Hacienda. Christian und Benjamin sind jederzeit ansprechnar und behilflich, wann immer es nötig ist. Für Naturliebhaber und Menschen geeignet, die ausspannen wollen in einer Umgebung, die sicherlich zu den schönsten in La Palma gehört. Tolle Blicke in die Kiefernwälder und bis zum Meer. El Refugio_La Palma

Unser erster Aufenthalt auf La Palma war Dank unserer wunderschönen Unterkunft ein sehr gelungener Urlaub. Das liebevoll eingerichtete Haus mit viel Komfort und mehreren wunderschönen Terrassen können wir unbedingt weiterempfehlen. Es eignet sich hervorragend für Familien mit Kindern - besonders geschätzt haben wir auch das separate Studio, in dem zwei unserer Kinder alleine wohnen konnten und trotzdem eng an das Haupthaus angebunden waren. Das gesamte Grundstück samt Pool ist ein Traum. Die wirklich sehr schönen Eindrücke von Landschaft, Natur, Ruhe und Wetterstimmungen werden wir lange in Erinnerung behalten. Sehr schöne und gesellige Abende haben wir auf der - auf dem Grundstück befindlichen - Placita samt Außenküche verbracht. Geführt wird die Hacienda sehr freundich, zuvorkommend und liebevoll. Das gesamte Gelände ist sehr gepflegt. Der hauseigene Wein, den man jederzeit erwerben kann, ist phantastisch. Einen Aufenthalt auf der Hacienda können wir in jedem Fall weiterempfehlen.

Berauschender Urlaub in wunderbarer Kulisse

Hier hat für uns (Paar, Anfang 50) alles gepasst: sehr gemütliches und gut ausgestattetes Häuschen in einem riesigen Weinberg in "luftiger" Höhe, sehr freundlicher und hilfsbereiter Empfang, faszinierende Naturschauspiele, nachts und tagsüber, eine abwechslungsreiche Landschaft, wunderschöne Sonnenuntergänge, Wanderungen durch die Berge oder auch über steile Klippen an Strände mit wenig Touristen; ideal für Leute, die Ruhe, Entspannung und Natur lieben! Empfehlenswert!

Phänomenal

Alles war rundum phänomenal. Der Ort, die Unterkunft, die Betreuung, der Garten, der Wein, das Mandelmus, einfach alles war paradiesisch gut. Wir hatten das besondere Vergnügen die ersten 9 Tage im El Refugio und die restlichen Urlaubstage im El Sitio zu verbringen. Beide haben uns sehr gut gefallen. Auch die Wanderrouten, teilweise gleich von der Hacienda weg, sind sensationell. Wir kommen bestimmt wieder. Liebe Grüsse aus der Schweiz von B. & Ph. Schmid

Herrliche Zeit am Rande der Welt

Wir waren über Silvester 2016/2017 fast 2 Wochen auf der Hacienda und hatten wunderbare Tage. Christian, Benjamin und Marika, die drei deutschen Mitarbeiter vor Ort, waren extrem hilfsbereit und herzlich und haben die ganze Anlage wunderbar hergerichtet. Die Mandelbäume sind über die Zeit immer mehr in Blüte gekommen und haben das Grundstück zusammen mit den anderen Blumen zu einem paradiesischen Ort werden lassen. Abends liefen in unserem Refugio meistens eine oder beide Kamine, dadurch wurde es gemütlich warm. Holz war genügend vorhanden. Die Küche ist gut ausgestattet. Der Pool liegt etwa 50m entfernt am oberen Ende des Grundstücks und war erwartungsgemäß ziemlich frisch aber noch zu benutzen. Man kann einen mit Holz beheizen Hot Tub in Betrieb setzen, was aber einigermaßen aufwändig ist und deshalb nur 1x in der ganzen Zeit von uns in Anspruch genommen wurde. Dafür gibt es auf der Hacienda ein Haus mit Sauna, welches vorübergehend nicht belegt war und dann den anderen Gästen zur Verfügung stand. Einziger Kritikpunkt ist das wenig leistungsfähige Internet. Da die Anwendungen von heute mehr Bandbreite voraussetzen, wäre es toll, wenn Tobias Freitag hier noch aufrüsten könnte. 3G und 4G steht im Funkbereich zur Verfügung. Insgesamt ein schöner, gepflegter Ort, an den wir sicher planen zurückzukehren.
