Woodpecker Lodge | East Ruston Cottages

This three bedroom bungalow with a very secure garden, off road parking and hot tub is located at the end of Beach Road, which is a 10-15 minute walk to the beach. On your walk to the sandy, dog friendly beach you will pass a shop, cafes, chippy and a great bakery and there is a dog friendly local pub and bar too! Everything you need for a truly dog friendly Norfolk seaside holiday!

Enter into the hallway: A really welcoming hallway with hanging space for coats and boots. Laminate flooring.

Open plan kitchen/living/dining area
The modern fully fitted kitchen has an electric oven and hob, dishwasher, and washer/dryer. There is a large free standing American style fridge-freezer in addition to a built in 60/40 fridge-freezer for plenty of human and raw dog food. There is also a microwave, toaster and kettle. The light and airy open plan lounge/diner has access to the garden via the French doors. There are two large electric reclining leather sofas and footstool in front of the TV with Sky TV with the sports channels included. The large dining table provides comfortable seating for six.

Bedroom 1
Bedroom 1 has a kingsize bed with wardrobe storage, bedside tables and TV (with Sky TV with the sports channels included). The modern ensuite has a walk in shower cubicle, basin and WC.

Bedroom 2
Bedroom 2 has a small double bed (4′) with bedside tables and storage for clothes. TV (with Sky TV with the sports channels included).

Bedroom 3
Twin 3′ single beds with bedside tables. There is a TV (with Sky TV with the sports channels included), chest of drawers and hanging space for plenty of storage.

Family bathroom and shower room.
Lovely modern fitted bathroom comprising of bath with shower over, WC and basin.

The whole property has underfloor heating with non-slip flooring.

Outside:
The fully enclosed garden has a luxury 6-person hot tub. There are 6ft high solid fences all round and lockable side gates. You can relax knowing you are not overlooked anywhere in the garden. The patio has a dining table set with parasol for 6 people plus separate lounging chairs.

In the garage there is an adult and separate child’s dart boards for family competitions!

Parking:
There is room for two cars right in front of the property on the driveway. There is a tethered EV charger suitable for Type 1 or Type 2 vehicles with free charging for guests.

Everything was perfect

Hot tub was amazing, the lodge was modern with everything we needed, our dogs were so relaxed all the photos I took were of them enjoying the luxurious dog beds provided, we had a lovely stay for our 40th wedding anniversary and will definitely be back.

Lovely property, good location

Had a lovely week here with our dog and little boy. Perfect base for exploring, venturing to the beach and relaxing. Lovely daily walks to the baker and the view from Scratby beach. Short drive to Winterton-on-sea where beach access was more suited to our old dog :) The house was so well set up, clean, spacious and very very comfy. Plenty of storage for clothes and cupboard space for food in the kitchen! . Generously furnished and very clean throughout.

Great place to stay

The bungalow was very well equipped and the owners had left some very welcome supplies for our arrival. Lots of information about the facilities of the bungalow as well as places to visit. Also lots of blankets etc for our 4 legged friends. Only downside was road was a little noisy.

Fabulous place!

We had a lovely long weekend at Woodpecker Lodge! The place is really lovely with everything you need. The bed is so comfy and so are the sofas! I would highly recommend the local farm shop Hirsts, the meat and fish and local veg are so good. Local beaches are also ideal for taking your dog for a walk on the beach, our Great Dane loved the freedom!

Scratby 4 night break

Wonderful Woodpecker

To find somewhere that 6 adults and 6 spaniels all loved and had no complaints about must be worth shouting about! The closeness to the sea and the amount of stuff provided for the dogs made this a very easy and relaxing week. Thank you.

Great location

This visit we came midweek this gave us more opportunities to explore other areas as Woodpecker Lodge is in a good location. Lovely clean, warm and modern property. Great for our family as my dad is 93 and my hound is over 14. You really don’t need to bring much for your dogs as this property has everything. Would highly recommend.

Gorgeous Lodge

Absolutely gorgeous and spacious bungalow with everything (and more!) needed for humans and dogs. Lovely welcome hamper, super comfy bed and great beds for dogs too. In a quiet cul-de-sac and just a 10 minute walk to the beach. Convenience store just across the road and a lovely bakery and fish & chip shop within 5 minute walk. Honestly couldn’t find fault with anything and was very sad to leave.

A good base to explore Norfolk

A lovely long weekend in Norfolk with family and the dogs. The location is a good place to explore. Off season so some local places were closed but we could easily get further afield. Dogs were very comfortable and were given the luxuries to make it a home from home for them. Their dog beds were extremely comfortable. The cottage was exceptionally clean and comfortable for 6 people and was well equipped. Would definitely recommend.

Beautiful bungalow with every comfort possible.

Immaculately presented with some lovely touches like electric reclining sofas, Sky TV, hot tub, comfy beds. Everything you could need is supplied, lovely dog beds and sofa covers. We drove to the beach as have elderly dogs but not far to walk if you have more active dogs. I was surprised that there was always parking available (free) right by the beach. Very peaceful walks and quiet area. Great communication by the owner too. Highly recommended.

Immaculate accommodation

Lovely bungalow, good location very clean, there was only two minor negatives that can easily be rectified , no wine glasses and no mirrors in bedroom or near a socket so you could use a hairdryer/ straightners. Would definitely recommend and return.

Short break in Scratby - Nov 23

We made a late booking to get away from the fireworks and we weren’t disappointed. Lovely modern bungalow and very well equipped and super warm. Lovely big beds for dogs to lounge on and the sofas if required. Safe and secure garden, we have a greyhound as do the owners so they get what is required to make your Grey very comfortable and safe. 10-15 minute walk to the lovely beach and some local shops if required. Would highly recommend and would definitely come back.

Last minute break

A fantastic property definitely 5* luxury, high standard of furnishings, superb comfy beds, everything you could possibly need and above for a comfortable stay, the humans loved the dog beds as much as the dog,the hot tub a great addition at the end of the day.Very spacious and loved the underfloor heating. Great restaurants and takeaways with in easy reach, an ideal base for the beach 10 minutes walk and visiting the seals.Great communication throughout, loved the welcome basket. No negative points whatsoever and would highly recommend. Can’t wait to return.

Modern and very comfortable

Wonderfully modern and clean bungalow in a quiet residential cul-de-sac. Super touches like Sky TV in all rooms. Fantastic powerful showers. Main bedroom bed very comfy. Hot tub was a very welcome addition. And was maintained twice during our one week stay as standard - not because there was anything wrong. Side access to limit sand and mud coming into the house was very useful. Less than 10 mins walk to bakery, tea room, convenience store and beach. Handy location to explore other parts of the region.

Beautiful lodge

We stayed as two families and one dog for May Half Term. The lodge was furnished to such a high standard and so well equipped both for us and our pup, everything had been thought of. The beds were so comfortable, the dog provisions and options were great, the hot tub was wonderful and the darts board set up in the garage was an excellent addition that was used constantly by the children! The easy walk down to Scratby beach and the huge expanse of sand was fabulous for some lovely dog walks. The bakery, fish & chip shop and Tastebuds tearoom were all excellent too. Tastebuds was so dog friendly and welcoming. Despite very mixed weather, we had a wonderful relaxing 5 days, the owners were on hand with any queries / questions we had and very helpful. We will certainly be back!

They have thought of everything!

They've honestly thought of everything for both you and your dog here! Multiple dog bowls in different sizes, including slow feeders, multiple throws, loads of extras in the garage, well stocked kitchen, fantastic welcome basket. The property is beautifully presented both inside and out, and the location is perfect too - just 15 minutes to the beach and you pass Scratby bakery, a cafe and and a pub if you want a coffee or a wine on the way too or from the beach! Would highly recommend Bebe Rai's loaded fries too, and the milkshakes come highly recommended but I didn't get to try on this occasion.

Amazing!

As much as I want to leave a bad review to keep this awesome little gem to myself, I can’t! As our first UK dog friendly holiday, we wasn’t sure what to expect. But, WOW, Steve, Paula, Syd and Woody have thought of everything!! Their holiday home is spotless and a literal home away from home. They’ve thought of everything for your pups from blankets, bedding, towels right down to a slow feeder! We had an amazing time and as soon as 2027 dates are released, we’re booking again. For the humans, everything has been thought through, takeaway menus, recommendations for food, days out, appliance instructions, towels, fresh bedding, blankets and even a beautiful little welcome basket. There was even milk in the fridge so you can have a cuppa as soon as you arrive! We can’t wait to rebook, thank you again for sharing your wonderful holiday home with us

Woodpecker Lodge

Wow, what an amazing place to stay, all the beds were very comfortable, the open plan layout worked very well for us, being able to cook and talk while still keeping an eye on Baileys antics out in the very secure garden. The beach is a15-20 min walk, but did it nearly every day. I don’t think Scratby has the charm of Winterton(stayed at Beachcomber last year), but still a lovely village.We walked across the fields to Hirsts farm shop and had a lovely meal(Thank you ERC for the voucher). Our only negative was the road noise , which started quite early in the morning and went on till 11 ish at night, but sorted that by getting some earplugs. Thank you ERC for another great Norfolk holiday .

Cosy comfy dog friendly place to stay

We wanted a cosy dog friendly stay somewhere with quiet beaches in December. We happened to find the perfect place! The owners were very helpful with any queries we had before our arrival. The bungalow was perfect for us, the underfloor heating was lovely, the place had some Christmas decorations which was a really lovely touch. Our dogs were very relaxed from day one and loved the giant dog beds in the lounge. We took our own dog beds for the bedroom as that’s what they have at home. We walked on Scratby beach everyday and visited the bakery on the way back (very friendly and a great selection). We had a few outings but our aim was to just chill, away from work, and we felt very relaxed. We slept like logs as did our dogs. A great holiday and one to remember, thank you.

Woodpecker Lodge

I stayed at Woodpecker Lodge with my 2 dogs and a good friend. We were all very comfortable, especially the dogs who loved the super-size dog mattresses in the sitting room! The house was very clean and peaceful; all furniture and fittings look brand new and the house was equipped with everything we needed including a lovely welcome goodie basket, with yummy things for humans and hounds! The garden is very small but very secure and not overlooked, which was important for my dogs. A premier mini-market 2 minutes away, perfect for last minute items. Easy access to main roads made it easy to drive to other towns and beaches. The beach nearest the house is a short walk down the road or even shorter drive, and a wonderful, wide expanse of sand stretching for miles! To note, if you have a dog-reactive dog then it's not the best beach as access is via a zig-zag ramp, which made it impossible to avoid getting very close to other dogs as they accessed the beach. However, once over that hurdle, the beach was fantastic and we had lots of fun. This was the second property I have booked with East Ruston Cottages and did not disappoint!
