COVID-19 has changed how we travel, but it hasn't put the brakes on our zest for exploring. Here are a few tips on how to navigate travel's new challenges:

• Know what rules and restrictions apply to both your origin and destination. It may not be possible to travel depending on local circumstances, so check government advisories before booking.
• You're required to wear a face mask throughout your travel experience, even at screening checkpoints. Be ready to lower your mask for identification purposes when asked by a TSA employee.
• Avoid handing your boarding pass (paper or electronic) directly to a TSA officer. Rather, position the pass on the reader and then hold it up so the agent can inspect it.
• TSA is now permitting passengers to take one container of hand sanitizer, up to 12 oz (350 ml) in size, in carry-on baggage. This will need to be removed from your bag for screening.
• Remove personal items from your pocket, like your small change and phone, and put them in your carry-on instead of into bins. This will reduce handling during the screening process.
• Separate any food you're carrying for screening. Putting it in a clear plastic bag and into a bin reduces the need for a TSA employee to touch and inspect your belongings.

In an effort to limit contact between travellers and cabin crew during the current pandemic, airlines have taken social distancing and other strategies to the skies. Just a handful of these are:

• Alaska Airlines - this airline is known for providing passenger masks and cleaning with disinfectant.
• Delta - this airline is known for electrostatic cleaning and cleaning with disinfectant.
• Southwest Airlines - this airline is known for providing passenger masks and cleaning with disinfectant.
