They Don't Build Them Like This Anymore

    And they really don't.

This French Country home wasn't assembled from a catalog or finished in a hurry. It was custom built by a celebrated Atlanta decorator who treated every surface as a design decision — antique wood floors that have already outlasted a generation, French clay tile that came from somewhere with a better word for craftsmanship, and three stone masonry fireplaces placed exactly where they should be: the living room, the kitchen, and the screened porch. The kind of details that take years to source and a lifetime to appreciate.

Set on four lushly wooded acres along historic Billy Cabin Road, with Mirror Lake a short walk away and Satulah Mountain framed perfectly from the back porches, this is the rare rental that feels less like a getaway and more like someone's most treasured possession — because it is.

A Home That Rewards Exploration Spread across three levels, the layout gives everyone room to find their own rhythm. The main-level primary suite keeps things easy for guests who want to stay close to the kitchen and living areas — and with a fireplace anchoring each of those rooms, there's always a warm, beautiful space to drift back to. The kitchen fireplace alone is the kind of thing you didn't know you needed until you've had your morning coffee in front of it.

Upstairs, the upper primary suite earns its status. A private open-air balcony looks out over four acres of trees and mountain sky, and a generous dressing room — furnished with a fine antique chaise lounge — adds a note of quiet elegance that's increasingly hard to find anywhere. This is the suite you book the trip for.

On the terrace level, two large guest suites flank a comfortable den, each with its own private bath. It functions beautifully as a self-contained retreat for other members of the group — private enough to feel independent, connected enough to feel like part of the same home.

The Porches, the Mountain, the Acres The back of this home is where you'll lose track of time entirely. A double-level porch looks out over the wooded property toward Satulah Mountain, with a wood-burning outdoor fireplace that makes the space genuinely usable from early spring through late fall. There's something about an outdoor fire with a mountain view that makes every conversation better and every evening feel longer than it was.

Mirror Lake is a short walk down the road. Downtown Highlands is minutes away. But four wooded acres, three fireplaces, and a porch like that make a strong case for staying close to home.
