About this property

A peaceful waterside retreat in the heart of Sussex

  • Situated on the banks of a beautiful fishing lake and on the edge of the ancient St Leonard's Forest, the Boathouse at Colgate is a tranquil retreat for anyone looking for a relaxing and restorative break.

The building has been lovingly renovated retaining many original features such as wood roof beams and internal wall coupled with handmade furniture and kitchen.

The Boathouse is situated on a working fishing lake so you may see an occasional fisherman across the water but otherwise you will be completely undisturbed. A maximum of two dogs are welcome.

    Layout

On the ground floor, the kitchen/diner and sofa area looks out to the sun deck and lake. There is plenty of storage, fast WiFi and a spacious downstairs cloakroom. Upstairs you'll find the cosy attic bedroom with king size bed and ensuite shower and toilet.

    Sleeping Arrangements

One bedroom with king size attic bed.

    Exterior

The Boathouse sits in its own private garden by the side of the lake. The decking area looks out over the water with plenty of birdlife to watch and is the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee or your sundowner and everything in between. The garden has dining furniture and a BBQ.

    Accessibility

Due to steep steps/stairs and a low bed and sofa, the property is unfortunately not suitable for people with reduced mobility.

This is without doubt a really lovely little bolt hole. Peaceful and beautiful. At the time of year we visited the paths were muddy and filled with huge puddles. Boots/wellingtons and definitely a torch would have been useful. Also the bedroom is small and the bed is more or less at floor level which was quite difficult to negotiate. Having said that the boathouse is very well put together and the view is so tranquil.

A delightful calming, quiet bolt hole equiped with high end accessories. Host was swift to respond and always helpful. Breakfast on the d3ck whilst watching the heron swoop was a delight.
