"We stayed at Vila Alegre with Antonio for 17 nights in February 2026. From the moment we arrived we were treated to Antonio’s gracious hospitality. He went out of his way to make us feel at home by supplying us with many delicious treats from the island including bread, fresh eggs from his chicken, fruits from his gardens as well as cheeses and jams. The accommodations were bright, clean, private and the surrounding gardens filled with tropical trees and flowers felt like paradise. During our stay he checked in with us regularly to make sure we had what we needed (and to drop off more fresh eggs!). The vila is just a short distance from the airport and downtown Ponta Delgada and an easy drive to all the beautiful sites that Sao Miguel has to offer. The bed was very comfortable and we loved waking up to the sound of mooing cows and singing birds in the distance. We also really appreciated his flexibility with early check in and late check out. We were sorry to have to say goodbye!"

"Property is location was spectacular and the house amenities were excellent. São Miguel island is a surprising gem, our expectations were surpassed by a mile. "I stayed at Hotel Solar do Conde and, unfortunately, the experience was not what I had hoped for. The biggest issue was the bed: the “double” was only 137 cm wide, which feels more like something from generations ago than a modern hotel standard. For a stay in 2025, it was surprisingly small and uncomfortable, especially for two adults. On a positive note, the buffet breakfast was quite nice, with a decent variety and good quality. However, a good breakfast doesn’t make up for a poor night’s sleep. Given the outdated room comfort, I cannot recommend this hotel. There are better options in the area that offer more modern amenities and a more comfortable stay."

"This was the most fantastic house we’ve ever had the privilege of staying at. Our family of four absolutely adored the Blue House. The location and views from the house are breathtaking and everything has been thoughtfully designed and decorated by the architect couple who designed the property on the site of an old Whalers’ tavern. Capelas is centrally located to most places on the island which made traveling to different destinations easy, and we got to enjoy being away from downtown at the end of the day. I hope we have the chance to stay here again someday."
