Soak in the retro charm by the side of Lake Rhoda in a park that was built in 1908. Enjoy vintage roller coasters, neon walkways and candy floss in a real step back in time to the golden age of entertainment.Climb aboard the Cyclone, one of the very few surviving timber roller coasters in the U.S. This one was assembled in the 1940s, and it continues to delight and thrill yet another generation of fun-seekers.Those with a need for speed will love the high velocity of the Wild Chipmunk, the Whip and the Tilt-a-Whirl. Enjoy the view at a gentler pace on the Ferris wheel overlooking the park, or try out the bumper boats.The festive atmosphere is a real throw back to another era. Enjoy the lovingly hand-carved wooden horses and dragons on the merry-go-round, original survivors from when the park opened more than a century ago. In those days, there was a gourmet restaurant on site, and live theatrical performances were held here too. While the glamour of yesteryear is long gone, the two small trains on site are survivors from the theme park's earliest days – indeed, they came from the World's Fair in St. Louis in 1904.Lakeside Amusement Park enjoyed a refurbishment in the 1930s, and the art deco style which was a result remains a hallmark to this day. Prices are very reasonable – much lower than the majority of other theme parks.The sense of carnival is enhanced by live music, acrobats and other performers. Queues are short too.The park is open in the evening from May to mid-September and it's just a short bus journey or drive from Denver city centre.
